2013 Boot/Recovery CD crashing when selecting "recover"

Thread needs solution

The boot CD comes up fine and I can select a backup file to recover. I can verify the backup fine, but if I choose to RECOVER it then acronis freezes and the computer restarts itself about 1 minute later. During this time, the mouse still functions but the Acronis window is non-responsive.

System is win7 x64 (but using the acronis boot cd). Uses an adaptec 5805Z RAID card. The restore target disk is a RAID6 container setup with 6 WD RE4 Enterprise drives. Detection of the RAID disk proceeds fine. Mobo/cpu is a i3820 in an ASRock X79 Extreme6/GB.

Source drive is a WD Caviar Black 1TB that is not on the Adaptec card but the mobo's SATA port.

I have tried these things:
1. Tried both the BootCD I made in 2013, and the one downloaded from Registered Products ISO (full iso). So thus I tried 2 bootCDs, same result.
2. Boot CD in AHCI mode
3. Boot CD in UEFI mode
4. Using the NOAPIC boot option
5. VALIDATE the image, this works fine.
6. I can initialize and partition the destination RAID array
7. I disabled all cpu cores but 1 in the uefi.
7. I tried ATIH2012_en_us.iso image, it cannot read the restore image (error reading sector xxxxx)

I'm out of options, just seems like there is a bug in the bootcd.

I hope you can help me out.

Thanks,
Colin

Colin,

Do you have the choice of non AHCI BIOS?

Have you tried a different USB port, preferably one on the back of the PC?

Unless anyone else has any suggestions, I think your best bet would be to run a system report and raise a support ticket.

I can confirm this. Create Boot USB Stick with Windows 8 x64 RTM, boot from stick, start recovery. System crashes into BIOS.

I tried IDE emulation mode, but the drive wouldnt even show up then. There are no other modes besides AHCI and UEFI. There is RAID mode but that also uses AHCI and didnt work.

I wasnt using any usb devices, my source was a SATA disk that was plugged directly into the motherboard. Just for kicks I grabbed an external SATA/USB enclosure and tried to recover from that (with the usb enclosure plugged directly into the mobo usb port.)

I also tried backing up and restoring from a 2012 recovery cd, same hang on restore.

I got a system report, I will create a support ticket. Thanks.
