GroverH,
Thanks for the info, and please correct me if I am in error:
1. The home or premium will restore to a new HD (smaller or larger in size) and I will be capable of changing the partition size if needed?
2. I need to insure I have a current image backup and boot media.
3. If I have dissimilar hardware other than the HD, is there any other software from Acronis I will need (maybe this is a mute point because if I upgrade hardware, it would be to a new OS, currently I am running XP SP3)
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
You have not indicated the version of Windows. Sorry Bob, My goof. Info was provided.
1. That is what TrueImage standard or Trueimage Premium is designed to do. The skill of the user and attentiveness to detail does come into play when sizing the various partitions. Do check some of the guides offrered on this topic.
3. The premiumv version is the restore vehickle to dis-similar hardware. The Acronis knowledge base has several listings on this topic also past postings by others who have had difficulty but succeeded.

I am sorry, but at the bottom of my previous post it states Windows XP SP3. What I did not include was also all current updates. Also I am utilizing an Adaptec Sata 1420 HD controller, and MS Office 2010.
Thanks for all the good info.

My goof Bob.
However. I am not saying that it is possible to restore an XP system onto a Win 8 or 8.1 system. It may or may not, as I have not done it.
As the XP software is not geared to current versions of Windows. Many would advise against restoring XP onto Win 8 or 8.1.
Perhaps others can offer some assistance here.

No, no goof... Let me clear up the previous comment.
I am looking to restore Win XP to 8 or 8.1, I am an avid admirer of the now stable product which they are not going to support after 01/2014. It has been a rock when it comes to all of their OS's. They finally got something right. I do know it won't support a lot of the new updates (i.e. IE 10 or now 11 and other software), but I still like it.
Thanks for all the input and help.
Bob
