2104 Full Backup fails - booting from USB stick

Thread needs solution

So I believe this is build 6614, ThinkPad Helix, Windows 8.1. I created a bootable USB stick and am trying to get a full backup to a USB attached drive. When the backup is almost done, the machine reboots without the option checked. I have yet to actually catch it when it does to see if there is a message, but there is no image on the portable drive after it boots. I managed to get a backup from TI 2014 while booted on to Windows 8.1 and noticed it said it needed to do a sector by sector of a 7 GB partition. Could this be the issue when imaging from recovery mode? I never felt comfortable using images that were created when the system was hot.

So apparently that was the issue. When I leave out the 7GB partition the backup runs fine. How is it possible that a partition that requires a sector by sector backup isn't identified when selected by the recovery program, and then when the partition is encountered for backup, the machine simply reboots instead of Acronis at least issuing an error?
