3 days to backup 150 gig?
I have laptop 320 gig hdd, less than 1/2 full. Vista 64, 8gig mem. core 2 duo. My external 1TB eSata connected to laptop with 700+ gig free. Home 2011 version. I had defragmented my drive the day before I started my backup. Is this normal to take that long? I now have 5 hours left on my 3 day backup. YUK! I did a full backup. Will the backup be good and dependable? If my current hdd goes down can I install a new hdd and restore so my computer will be exactly ready to run as before a possible hdd failure or do I just have a worthless 3 day endurance test?
Explanations? Information? Solutions?

Jerry:
I don't know anything about eSata drives. I do a full backup and validation of my primary computer to a 2TB external USB WD drive. I am backing up 151 GB. Takes about two hours, validation included. Sounds like something is not right with your 2011 install or with the eSata drive. I have Win7 HP SP1 with 8 GB RAM and a quad-core.
I am not an expert either on ATIH, despite having used it for four years or so. I have found ATIH2011 to be the buggiest version of ATIH ever and Acronis doesn't seem to be making much progress getting it fixed properly. I hope that they resolve the issues with ATIH2012, or I will be joining the exodus and find another backup solution. I was really happy with the earlier versions, so I am hoping that the developers will get their act together and I am hanging in for now.
Have a great day.

Thanks for the post. Seems my eSata connection was bad. Connected via USB and it took about 45 min to BU 79.4 gig.

Jerry,
This is a good time, consistent with USB 2.0 (you got 30MB/s). I have seen up to 35MB/s on USB. Did you optimize your disk for quick removal?

time for new esata cable! I got one that does sata and sata power from my esata/usb combo port. With esata you can get ~95 with a 2.5" and ~170MB/s with a 3.5" drive. Using a 2.5" it takes me about 8-10 minutes to backup and verify my 30gb system partition.
