62 incremental backups then a full?
I have my backup set to:
Backup Method = Incremental
Create full version after 30 incremental versions
Keep size of backup no more than 1800 GB (to fit on my external drive)
I have the backup running every morning at 2am.
It seems the "Create full version after X incements" doesnt really work. Some months it works, othertimes it doesnt and will go for a random amount of increments before it does a full backup.
My last full backup was last week...after 62 days of incremental backups!
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to get this working? Is there some other setting I have overlooked that might be conflicting.
I want one full backup each month, and then 30 days of incremental backups. Sounds like it should be easy to setup..
Thanks
Jeff

Understand how the restore of incrementals works and the risks involved.
If during a 30 day cycle, any one of the early incrementals were to get corrupt or acquire a read error, then all backups newer than the error are useless and have no restore value. The rules of restoring an incremental chain is that all backups (from restore point) within that chain must be readable.
My suggestion would be reduce the 30 days of incremental--maybe to 15 and have twice monthly full backps. Or, run two backup tasks and set the start date timing so that you have a full backup every 15 days.
Differential backkups work differently. You only need any one diff backup plus the full inorder to have a complete restore.
Note: the 15 is an arbitrary number.

I am using incremental backup settings. I chose to make a full backup after 5 incremental backups. Today, I manually ran backup and it made a sixth incremental instead of a new full backup. Why is this?

Yes, a full should be the creation on backup #7 or after 1 full and 5 files labelled as InC.
I am "assuming" that you created the manual backup by pressing the "Backup now" option.
If yes, has the backup task been edited or changed since its creation?
If yes, it will probably straighten itself out after several more
I am understanding your backup scheme to be
Custom
Incremental
full after 5 incrementals
Automatic Cleanup checked
store no more than ? recent version chains
Link 2 below, illustration 11-Inc is what I am anticipating you to have.
