Access to the file is denied
I have now had Acronis 2012 for two months and still unable to get incremental backups to be successful. I get the following on each occasion:-
23 Acronis True Image Home 4/27/2012 8:17:29 AM Failed to open data stream.
24 Acronis True Image Home 4/27/2012 8:17:29 AM Failed to open data stream.
25 Acronis True Image Home 4/27/2012 8:17:29 AM Access to the file is denied.
26 Acronis True Image Home 4/27/2012 8:17:29 AM Access to the file is denied.
27 Acronis True Image Home 4/27/2012 8:17:29 AM The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
I have tried three different USB external drives.
Acronis support fail to come up with an answer and slow to respond.
Since the Acronis installation I note that searchprotocolhost.exe runs a large amount of the time on the usb drive despite indexing turned off. The only way I have had Acronis work is to turn off searchprotocolhost.exe but this has a detrimental effect on Windows 7 search facility.
I don't see why I should have to have two work arounds to use Acronis to get my Card readers to be recognised and secondly make the product work. When launching Acronis it should have been fully tested before marketing, as in my opinion it is not fit for purpose.
I purchased the product to safeguard my data and have just created a larger issue and no reliable backup.

The issue you explain here is the one I am having so will try the fix you suggest. Thanks:-
"FYI - there is a known issue with build #6154 and memory cards. There are two possible soluions. One is to insert the memory card into the reader before booting, windows will then mount and assign a drive letter. The other is to update your SNAPAPI drivers. See This This fix will be included in the next build of ATIH."
The initial back up saves without an issue but incremental back ups come up with the detail as in my first post. When it comes to a full back up again after the scheduled incremental back up days have expired a full back up will be successful.

The fix for the card reader doesn't work which is probably why Acronis Support admitted to knowing of the issue but didn't make me aware of the fix on their website.

This is unfortunate...
May I suggest that you not use the "Delete Version chain after X days" and instead select "Store no more than X recent version chains" This option is preferred and has worked more reliably for the majority of users here. Just remember that a complete new chain will be created before Acronis begins to clean up / consolidate your stored images.
Post back with your results.

Thanks for your quick response. The suggestion you make re "store" rather than "delete" is the setting I have been using.
Since the last full back up two days ago the the subsequent two incremental backups have been successful. I will see what occurs over the next few days. It doesn't make sense why it has worked when no changes have been made.
I will report back in due course.

Sure. The behavior sounds like the disk is simply not available when the task runs. Likely the SnapAPI driver issue, but ....
Do drive letter do you have assigned to this disk??? If not, use something like T, S U V, or X and update the task... let it run
I suppose power management settings could also cause something like this to happen.

The drive letter assigned is N, and I have tried three different drives all with different drive letters. The power has been confirmed to be on all the time. I find it frustrating that this has been escalated to the Acronis Expert Team but have had no communication from them up to this point. They have had the case for five days, and I find it very frustrating that this has been ongoing for two months and is very poor customer service.

I have now received the following reply from Acronis:l-

Hello everyone,
Thank you for your posts and valuable assistance.
BackUpNow, thank you for keeping us updated and we are sorry about this issue. While we are waiting for the new build, could you please apply the solution from the following article, it is possible the errors that you reported are caused by the backup file being locked.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

I have previously ensured the drive is unmounted and downloaded the Process Explorer, which identified the issue as per my previous posts which indicated that it is caused by searchprotocolhost.exe
Until Acronis come up with a resolve I can not see that I can do anything else?
I find it very frustrating that the product doesn't work in producing incremental backups and the card reader doesn't work unless the computer is booted with the card inserted. I am of the opinion that it comes under the category "Not fit for purpose" and should not have been released until fully operational.
I trust Acronis are treating this as extremely important and working towards a rapid resolve.
