access to the file is denied
ATI Home 2011 on Win 7 64bit.
Was all fine with ATI 2010 but now I get access to the file is denied error every time I try to run a scheduled backup. The destination file is on my home server (also Win 7 64) at \\SERVER\Backup\Acronis\Steve. As I said, this was fine with 2010. I can also navigate and write to this folder ok from win explorer. What is the problem?
Also, two other scheduled backups fail to run completely when attempted manually. These are very similar and share the same destination folder but don't even show the above error, and just show as 'scheduler failed to run task...' in the log file.
Thanks

yes - I started a new job from scratch - same error...

Things to try:
1. Use the IP address, whilst it shouldn't make a difference between a share name and the IP it has been known to.
2. Try deleting the entry for your home server in Windows Credentials.
3. Attempt to get TI to connect to the share, fill out the user/passwrd etc, if successful things should be OK from then on.
4. Change the log on for Acronis scheduler to your log on rather than System. Make sure your user name appears under the Backup Operators group in Windows and that Acronis is a member of this group.

Got it working now thanks...
The button to set and test the credentials was so well hidden! I could use the browse in ATIH to get to the destination folder fine and it never asked for credentials but it obviously needed them. There is a button at the top of the browser window called Connection Settings to allow you to set and test the creds. It needs doing for both the network machine name and the first folder on the disk. I'm sure ATIH 2010 asked for creds as you accessed network areas as you went along. Maybe something broke in the transition from 2010 to 2011 so it thinks it has access (it lets you browse!) but doesn't allow that access for runing an actual backup.
First time I did this it still didn't work so I had to delete and create a new job AGAIN for it to work.
Not impressed with 2011. I've been using Acronis from the start and this version really does seem to have got it's UI in a twist. I design web UIs for a living (Senior VP Technology for aninternet authentication/security company) and this version really is badly designed!
Seriously thinking about going back to 2010 which was very good.
Why have I got to look at a long list of old backups in order to find my scheduled jobs?
Where is the home button on the tools & utilities page? Up in the breadcrumb bar.
How do I turn off nonstop? It's not obvious.
Where is the 'integration with Win7? Not seen any yet.
Why does everything seem to need more clicks than it should? From the long list of backups and jobs that I don't want to look at I have to click Operations, then More to find what the actual operations are! It's a mess.
After so many versions, Acronis should have got the UI sorted by now.

The list of previous backups can be deleted if they are no longer in use. In the past Acronis had complaints that the new versions didn't recognise old tasks. It seems to me that it is better to remove tasks it has found, than for a user have to go searching for tasks to be found.
Becareful how you delete them though, the first option will delete both the task and the image (if it still exists) the option to remove form list is off the 'Operations' menu.
The integration with W7 is that TI is now a choice under 'Control Panel\Backup and Recovery', right click on a file and select properties and there is now a versions tab of that files backup, you can now drag and drop your tasks as shortcuts onto your desktop, thereby starting them with a double click.
NSB, will have to get back to you, I didn't look at this too much earlier on.

I have a similar problem. ( ATIH 2011, Win 7 32bit - WORKGROUP mode. )
I have just upgraded to a new Synology DS410 NAS (DSM3.0)
All backups to the NAS now fail to start with "Access to the file is denied".
I have tried all the above, new user accounts on PC and NAS and new backup profiles in Acronis.
I can browse the NAS from Win7 and within Acronis while creating the profile including creating new subdirectories on the NAS within "Browse for Destination"
Setting credentials within the "Connection Settings" and the "Test Connection" work fine.
But when I do a Run now or deferred, I get a failure with the "Access to the file is denied".
Interestingly as a final test, I manually created an empty file of the backup name and ran the backup - IT WORKED.
It opened the file and renamed it with (1) suffix while performing the backup then dropped the (1) when the backup finished.
This was the first full backup.
SO there seems to be a 'file creation' problem within the backup script but not outside of it. ( at least on this NAS !!)
Then clicked "Backup up now" for and incremental backup - IT WORKED this time. ??????
I see what happens tomorrow.
Any thoughts ??

As a followup to the previous posting:
I manually cycled thru the six(6) incremental backup runs. ( custom one week cycle)
All the incremental backups worked with the apropiate suffix ..2, ..3 thru ..7. When the eighth and next full backup attempted to run, it failed with the "Access to the file is denied" error again.
So i'm back to square one again..

Please ignore last two posts.
In my case ir appears to be an odd SAMBA bug in the new Synology 3 code.
I'll wait for a new code release.

As far as I can tell. ATI 2011
_____DOES NOT WORK_____
with windows 7 64 bit trying to back up to a network share. All I get is "Access to the file is denied."
Yet for some reason, while setting up the backup, I can browse to the folder and create a new folder, so CLEARLY, at some point in time, ACCESS IS NOT DENIED!!! I tried all the suggestions of the previous posters with no luck.
I purchased this product from a friend's recommendation and am so far THOROUGHLY disappointed with this waste of my time and money.

Aaron,
How are you accessing the network drive i TIH? If via a mapped drive have you tried using the UNC path instead?
More likely though, is permissions confusion. In control panel delete the netowrk credentials, then try accessing the drive via TIH . If this then gives you access to the drive, the priblem should be solved.

Thanks Colin,
I tried UNC using names, UNC using IP, mapped network drive. I'm out of ideas.
This is a out-of-the-box windows 7 ultimate x64 lenovo laptop. I checked and I don't even have any network credentials saved (we're talking brand-new here). The network share authenticates automatically with my Windows credentials.
What is really irritating is that ATI positively, most definitely _CAN_ access the location via the file browser, so why the #### is it not accessing it when it runs from a script. The services are running as me, so I suspect ATI is not managing network credentials properly. This definitely needs fixing.

Check in Services.msc and see what authority TIH is using to access the system. It normally defaults to it's own which is fine, though some systems require the user to add themselves to the backup group.
You could try getting it to run (scheduler) by giving it your log on and password.

Yes - I unfortunately tried all of these already
1st I tried adding myself to the backup operators group
2nd I tried changing the account for the "ACronis Scheduler 2 Service" to myself (with password, of course)
3rd I tried changing "Acronis nonstop backup service" account to myself.
None of these experiments worked.

A thought has just occurred. Do you log on to your system at boot time or does the desktop auto logon?

No auto-logon. I have to authenticate manually.

Update: I now have network backups working:
1. Uninstall Acronis "True" Image 2011
2. Run Windows 7 backup and restore
After about 30 seconds of configuration, the computer is now successfully backing up to the network!
And I have a shiny new $50 clay pigeon for range practice :-)

The problem is Windows' silly Homegroup.
When asked for username / password, enter the computer's name that you're currently on ("MYHOME-PC", etc), and the Homegroup password, obtainable from the host computer's control panel.
Hope this helps.

I should clarify -- the Homegroup username/password APPEARED to work for me, but then decided not to. In fact, after it failed to work in Acronis, it messed up the Homegroup entirely, and I was unable to access files across computers in Windows Explorer.
For the record, I believe this is a problem with Homegroup, not with Rebit. The same thing occurs in Rebit 5.
The solution was to disable Homegroups in Windows. Create a user account on the main computer, with a password, and then use these credentials to login from the client computer. Works fine now.
