Accessing Plus Package

Thread needs solution

Hi:

Installed True Image/Plus Package 2013 in Win8 (not running UEFI). Does the Plus Package automatically start up as part of True Image when I start True Image? In this regard, Plus Package does not show up as being installed in the Metro start screen, although it does show up as installed in Control Panel > Programs and Features.

If the Plus Package does not start up as part of True Image when True Image starts up, then what is it called in C: > Program Files > Acronis > TrueImageHome. I would want to make a short cut to run it.

Within Windows the Plus Pack is transparent, if you check the Help\About box in 2013 it should show that the Plus Pack has been installed. You won't notice anything else different about 2013 from a GUI point of view.

When you make the recovery CD you should now see an option to make a WinPE based CD along with the standard Linux one, and from the CD made you should see (when booted from the CD) an option to browse for drivers.

Thank you very much Colin. You have answered my question. But wait!!! You get two questions for the price of one.

Over the years, I have used True Image a great deal. At some point, the interface became very unintuitive to me. I figured how to do what I wanted and then just sort of blew Acronis off unless I wanted to simply make an image/backup and recover it from CD or whatever. Now, I am going to be taking True Image more seriously. But, as implied I am out of touch.

Above you mentioned making the recovery CD--which I definitely want to do. Having such a CD seriously saved my butt once. I had made a series of blunders that almost overcame my fail-safe methods. And, I ended up being at the point of extinction for an installation, and, while it seemed like a long shot, the CD saved the day.

Anyway before you even mentioned it, I had looked briefly for where to make a recovery CD given my new True Image 2013. I am unclear on which link(s) to use. I see nothing labeled obviously like "Make your recovery CD here." :) I do see a "Rescue Media Builder." Is this builder where I now create a recovery CD?

Rescue Media Builder is the utility you want to use.

I have the 2013 Plus Pack, it shows in the upper left corner (True Image 2013 Plus Pack by Acronis) when Acronis running, the "about" does not show Plus Pack, it just says True Image 2013 build 5551, nor do I get the option for a WinPE when building bootable media, I get get the CD, removable disk and ISO Image creation options, but no WinPE.

Thanks much. I now see the obvious. But, in my case it's centered on my screen. No matter. I must have been blind. Did you see the link above about what comes with the Plus Pack?. I have the same as you, ignoring the PE thing. The PE program does not show up when I go Control Panel > Programs and Features in Win8, but it does show up as installed in the Metro interface. I also can find no reference to it in C: Programs Files > Acronis > TrueImageHome.

My guess would be the Plus Pack integrates into TI 2013 and is not a separate program. Why you get a winpe option and I don't is anyone's guess.

I think you are right. And, if you don't have the PE thing, then Acronis definitely owes you. Why don't start a thread about the issue? Did you look in the places I mentioned to see if you can find evidence that it is installed on your machine? Did you definitely do the download for the Plus Pack? I assume you did.

I'm not sure but I wonder if the PE function only shows if the Microsoft WAIK or ADK is installed on the machine. Either of these programs are required in order for the PP to make a WinPE based CD. I happen to have those installed installed on my system so it might be that I always see the option.

I will check on a system that doesn't have either of the PE installation kits installed.

Here is an example of what I got, attachment is a series of screens. Notice upper left hand corner, it is the Plus Package. However, if I do the about, that screen doesn't show the Plus, it only says TI 2013. I would have added it, but it shows the serial numbers. Then I would have to use another program to dark them out.

What may or may not be issue, I did an upgrade and previous version 2010 did not have the Plus Pack.

I don't have a clue about ADK or WAIK, thought they were to distribute software throughout a network.

I don't see evidence of WAIK or ADK in Programs and Features for Win8 Pro. Metro says I have the PE ISO builder, but that's my only evidence of its presence.

General comments using Win 7 as an example on Plus Pack which is properly installed.

1. The plus pack is a separate installation after TrueImage 2013 has been installed. A Plus Pack serial number is needed for input into the Plus pack installation.

2. Inside the True Image program installed into Windows 7: In the help/about section in extreme upper right corner, the word PLUS Pack will NOT appear but two serial numbers will be listed and second serial number will be identified as the plus pack serial number.

3. True Image will appear under the letter T inside the Win7 Program & Features listing of programs.

4 The bootable media module will NOT list the Plus Pack as a selection to be included in the creation of the Recovery CD but the Plus Pack will be included inside the Recovery CD.

Note: within the Recovery CD, in the Help/about section, the plus pack will not be referenced. When performing a restore and selecting the Recovery Module, the "Choose Recovery Method" screen will display an option to use "Acronis universal Restore" under the "Recover whole disks and partitions" listing.

5. Downloads of Microsoft WAIK or ADK links are listed within the guides below.

MustangPEBuilder is a major improvement in the ease of creating a WinPE based recovery CD for True Image Home. I use it and recommend its use.
MustangPEBuilder 2.0 is now provided for free and available in two versions. The first is for use with Microsoft's Automated Installation Kit (WAIK). The second is for use with Microsoft's Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK).
