Acronis 2011 - making an image from a SATA disc to use on a SSD

Thread needs solution

I have a MSI Laptop where the orginal disk has a C: and D: visible partitions and one or two invisible onnes for Recovery by F3 made by MSI.

Now I wanted to replace the original 500GB disk with a 128GB SSD disk, and I only want to have the C partition copied/cloned from the original disk.

So I made a Bootable media disc and used it to make a backup of C: to D: that is about 25GB (mybackup.tib)
Then I replaced the original disc with the SSD and connected the original disc to the PC using a USB external box.
Then I booted on the Bootable media disc again and tried to restore the backup to the SSD.
Its no problem finding the backup file, TI shows all discs and I can easily find my backup file.

But then what ?
Its getting a little confusing....

I can say that much, that it did not work to recover using the first image that I made when the original disc was in the laptop.
But then I made a second image having the disc attatched as a usb drive, and using that image I could restore the Boot partition to my new SSD drive installed in my laptop :)

The images were not the same size, I have no idea whats the difference between them.

You might be confused, but you've confused me as well.

What didn't work when you put the new disk in the laptop and the old in the external drive - did it recover, but then not boot?

When you say you made a second image, was this to the old drive in the external box?

What OS is or was on your old drive?
