Acronis 2011 Never Starts Backup
This problem only began occuring recently. When I attempt to run a file backup, Acronis True Image 2011 build 6942 queues the request but never starts the backup. Instead it just sits in this status, shows "Time Remaining... calculating" but never does anything more. I've allowed it to sit in this status for 24 plus hours and nothing. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and am not running Acronis in compatability mode. Task manager shows Acronis True Image Home running under Applications and Processes show TrueImage.exe *32 started. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

At last. Someone with a possible answer to this issue rather than a bunch of clueless "more information please" responses from Acronis's minders. Even if it is the usual "we don't know what the problem is so try this".
The bug hit me. I search the KnowledgeBase. I should be so lucky. Silence.
So I come here, search on "calculating", and find that the victims could fill a football stadium. This after a flood of regular invitations to buy software that I already own.
Time for the victims of this bug to write their reviews on Amazon?
Looks like the bad news has already got to that bit of the world. That many 1* reviews means something.
Count me out for Acronis 2013.

This could be a prob in the task being scheduled or something else.
Copy your existing backups to a new location if you want to keep them. Then delete the task and create a new one and see if that works.
IF that sdoesn't help, you can try running the installer and selecting repair before doing a full uninstall reinstall. If repair doesn't fix prob, then use msconfig to disable all non-microsoft services and all startup programs, then uninstall and reinstall. Test the program; it if works, then use msconfig to return to normal start up and test again.

msconfig isn't usually necessary but it helps prevent conflicts during installs/uninstalls, msconfig is free, and it won't hurt but might help.

Good idea. I had tried Repair because, unlike most grown-up software, Acronis does not have that option in that bit of the Control Panel.
I didn't think of running the installer.

Did you use msconfig first?
If so and prob persists, then try running the cleaner (see below) to remove the installation and then try to reinstall, after using msconfig.

I persisted. Shut down everything in sight and then ran the reinstall. Not sure if it did a repair or a full install. The progress messages were unclear.
This time it worked and I am back with a functioning version of Acronis True Image 2012.
The flaky behaviour, especially the possibility of erroneously preventing Windows from shutting down – and with no suggestion that this is because Acronis is doing something – means that I am not likely to buy again until I have confirmed that this clearly persistent bug has been squished.
Now to find out why running Acronis provokes funny on-screen messages from the software that controls my Logitech keyboard.
