Acronis 2012 Clone - reboot required but clone doesn't start after reboot

Thread needs solution

I have a new Samsung series 7 laptop that I am trying to clone the existing hard drive to a ssd. Windows 7 (x64) and Acronis 2012 is installed. Used space on the existing hard drive is 40gb, it's a 1tb drive. The ssd is 256gb, placed in a usb enclosure for cloning purposes. The ssd is visible from Windows.

When I run Acronis 2012 from within Windows 7 I select the original C drive as source and then the ssd is destination Acronis appears to process the task then prompts for a reboot to continue.

The reboot is done but after the reboot nothing ever happens.

Since then I have read on tbe forums about using the Acronis recovery cd to boot and perform the clone.

However this never works either because the ssd is always greyed out as a destination disk.

I thought about removing the cdrom and placing the ssd there but the cd rom needs to stay so I can boot into the recovery cd. Are there any issues with the media being attached by usb?

Any other ideas how I can clone to the ssd?

You would be better off doing a disk and partition backup of your current disk and restoring this to the SSD.

Clone Successful!

I managed to make it become a destination disk by first running 'add new disk', then rebooted with recovery cd and it was no longer greyed out - clone successful...thanks!
