Acronis and Diskcryptor

Thread needs solution

Hello All,

I have 2 hard disk,

- One with system (C) and program (D) - (This SSD Disk is not crypted)
- One for personal documents and (E) - (hard disk recently crypted with DiskCryptor)

I always create my backup with the acronis boot cd.
Usualy I backup C and D on E (E/trueimage/xxxx.tib)

Since i have crypt the Hard disk E, this hard disk is not recognized by acronis (with boot cd)
and i can't create a backup on E

There is a solution for this problem?

Thanks a lot,

Timothé

Timothé, sorry but the Acronis bootable rescue media does not support encrypted drives as has no means of decrypting / opening the encrypted drive from the boot CD.

See KB document: 56619: Acronis True Image: Compatibility with BitLocker which though for a different encryption product would still apply to your question where the document states:

You cannot back up encrypted disks in Acronis bootable media.

This would also mean that you cannot backup to encrypted disks using the bootable media.

 Dear Steeve,

Thanks a lot for your answer,
I'm sorry if my english is not very good because i'm french. :)

So, i can read on a forum that some persons can backup to encrypted disks using the bootable media with a soft manipulation.
Please, could you read the link below and the #13 post
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/tutorial-windows-system-drive-en…

But i'm not a professional of computer then, if it is possible, i'll need help :)

Thanks,

see you later

" Probably the easiest way I have found is to use the Acronis True Image software setup which provides everything one needs to make a Live CD/DVD incorporating Acronis True Image, and includes the ability to provide other add-ons (like Dcrypt). Somewhere on the Diskcryptor site one can download the DiskCryptor BartPE plugin that can be added to to the Live CD to achieve this function. But this approach requires availability of Acronis True Image with Plus Pack. "

Tim, I understand the principle of what the forum post you referenced but Acronis no longer uses the BartPE method for creating Windows PE bootable rescue media as they now provide a more direct method of creating this media from within the Acronis application using either the Windows AIK or ADK PE software from Microsoft.

There is information in the Wiki https://diskcryptor.net/wiki/LiveCD which states:

Starting from version 0.2.6, DiskCryptor includes BartPE plugin that can integrate the program into Windows LiveCD, based either on Windows XP or Server 2003.

There is a utility to incorporate Acronis into a customised Windows PE boot environment called MustangPE that you can find more information about at http://www.mechrest.com/plugins/index.html and which may allow you to use the BartPE plugin from your DiskCryptor software.

I am afraid it is beyond this forum for me to try to help guide you through the process of creating such boot media and it also has the requirement that you have purchased and installed the Acronis True Image product to use in that build process.

Thank you Steve for your detailled answer,
I'm afraid that i'm not able to create this type of customised Windows PE boot.

I'll do my backup in two time,

first on a not secure disk and
seconde copy .tib on the secure disk.

Have a good evening,

Tim
