Acronis Backup File not recognised

Thread needs solution

I wanted restore my C drive following a less than success full installation of some software. I booted from the CD everything appeared OK and the drive with the backup files on it could be seen as well as the files.

When I went to proceed with a restore a pop up message appered stating that the file which was not recognised as a backup file - It was I file I had created yesterday via the Acronis Backup process a .tib
I then went to another drive with an earlier backup and the same thing occurred. Is it something I am doing wrong, if so please could some advise? I am worried because in the event of computer disaster I will not be able to recover my data.

Hello Nigel,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

First of all I would recommend you to validate the backup archives by means of software validation tool. Check them both in Windows and under Acronis bootable disc, also please clarify the destination place of the backup archives. Is it on internal or external drive? It looks like the backup archives are corrupted.

If you have a corrupt backup and need to restore data from it, the general strategy would be to:

  1. Copy the corrupt backup archive to the internal hard disk drive (if the backup is on an external resource/media);
  2. Mount or explore the backup archive and try to restore files or folders from it.

If an Acronis product creates corrupt backup archives, please use the following scheme to troubleshoot the issue:

The troubleshooting scheme will guide you through steps to find out whether the backups are detected as corrupt due to the machine's faulty hardware, or they get corrupted during data transfer from network or USB, or due to the faulty transfer cable, or if the issue is in Acronis True Image running in Windows, or if the issue is with Acronis Bootable Media.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
