Acronis boot media 2011 freezes during boot

Thread needs solution

Hello:

I am using Acronis TI Home 2011 on a Dell Inspiron 14r 4110 (Intel) Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I successfully created an Acronis USB boot disk with the Media Builder but during the boot up the process freezes on the Acronis Bootable Media splash screen. I thought there might be a problem with 2011 and lack of drivers for this new laptop, so I tried the 2013 version with the same result. As of now I am without a recovery option, AND THAT IS NOT GOOD !

Of course I could rip the laptop apart and pull out the hard drive and use Bartpe (which BSOD's with this laptop) but this particular model buries the hard drive deep between the motherboard and keyboard !

Is there a way to add driver support or are there command line parameters I should add?

The USB Acronis recovery drive works well on another very new AMD chipset, so I'm a bit stumped. Perhaps I'll try a CD ROM and see if that works better.

I've tried everything to determine just what it is that the Acronis Recovery disk does not like about this new Dell laptop.

Tried booting the recovery software with a CDrom with the same result. Changed several bios settings (disable USB ports, change AHCI to ATA, etc) with no success.

I give up. At least I have a backup, but if I ever need to use it I'll have to almost completely disassemble the laptop !

That should be fun. If anyone has any ideas or has experienced the same I'd like to hear from you.

You can create the Rescue Media with optional Linux paramenters to help with compatibility problems.
http://kb.acronis.com/content/1891 and http://kb.acronis.com/content/14737.
Start with "acpi=off" without the quotes. If that fails try "noapic". They can also be combined. ("acpi=off noapic" for example)

Tried these commands with no luck either. But the good news is the cd recovery disk I made has been relegated to beer coaster service !

I've found that it is better to create the recovery media on USB flash drives if your computer supports booting to them. When you boot to the flash drive, you can press F11 at the Acronis selection screen (only available if you choose to add the system report option during creation) and then you can input the linux parameters before selecting the True Image program. If you try this you will end up at a Linux prompt if you can get past the problems with the Linux environment on your system. If you do, your would need to enter "/bin/product" at the command prompt and press "enter" to open True Image. Be sure to try the "vga=ask" parameter and select a screen resolution equal to or less than your max resolution of your display. "1024 X 768 X 32" or "800 x 600 x 32" are good choices for most folks.

Since this is considered a recovery/restore issue, you are entitled to free support with this problem.
Be sure to contact Acronis support and open a case with them. http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html
Make sure you have registered your serial number online, prior to contacting support.

I have several "Beer coasters". They get the job done, except for the big hole in the middle.!

If anyone runs into this issue and still cannot get past the first splash screen, try this. It worked when i had the same issue with a dell e6410.

Go into bios and disable the built in touchpad (assuming you are using a laptop).
Get a standard usb mouse
Boot from the acronis recovery disk (with the mouse unplugged)
Hit space to load acronis from the splash screen
Plug in the mouse, recover.

Hope this helps.
