Acronis Drive Cleanser seems to have frozen and progress bar has stayed stuck in the same postion for over 6 hours

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have recently cloned my new SSD hard drive from my Western Digital hard drive and upon successfully doing so, proceeded to wipe my WD hard drive clean. Since this morning 5 hours ago since starting the Wipe procedure, it appears to have stalled or frozen, or at least I cannot seem to tell if it has or not. Earlier it sad 4 hours to go, then 3 hours, then suddenly that went up to 4 hours before dropping to 2 hours, then 1 hour and 46 mins before recently saying 2 hours. But the progress bar seems to have remained in the same position since 4 hours ago and I can't tell if it is still continuing, or whether there is an issue with it, even though the hard drive disk is clearly showing to be in using use.

I'm wondering if anyone could advise me regarding this.

Much appreciated, thank you.

Marcus, there have been very few posts in the forums for Drive Cleanser that I have seen, so difficult to advise what is correct behaviour, but the time taken does sound to be much longer that would be expected.

Did you reboot your system from the new cloned SSD drive before starting the wipe of the old WD drive?

If you are still waiting after a further 3 hours or more, then I would suggest doing a force power off for the system, i.e. press and hold the power button for more than 5 seconds.  Then disconnect the WD drive, remove any bootable media and check that the SSD will boot without problem in Windows.

Once you have a working Windows OS environment, then try connecting the WD drive as a second drive or via USB and see what you see for the drive in Disk Management?  If needed you could try runnng Drive Cleanser from within Windows from the Acronis Tools menu.

Hi Steve,

The progress bar ironically moved not long ago, and should finish soon, but it had been far too long. I had already done a reboot from my new cloned SSD hard drive before starting the wipe of my old WD drive.

Once done I will be removing the WD from the secondary HD bay and then replacing it with my new Samsung 2TB hd for data back ups. It's just frustrating that the drive wipe has taken far too long and my laptop has been on since last night after the first wipe took 8 hours (this is 2 of 2 of wiping the drive)

I'll update you if there are any further issues. Thank you for your reply Steve.

Marcus, glad to hear that the wipe is progressing, hopefully may have finished now!

Is drive cleanser on TI 2016 broken? On windows10 64 bit I get an error... without ref support... On boot from usb it works till a minute to the end. The progress bar stucks and the led is blinking...

After the progress bar stuks at 1m 3s i'm waiting from 4 hours to complete...! Job began yesterday at 8:00 on wd blue new 1Tb.

Roberto, welcome to these User Forums.

I am not sure how best to advise you on this problem with Drive Cleanser - it is not a utility that I have had much need to use, so have no experience of how long it might take to complete.  As mentioned to the OP of this topic, there are very few topics posted on this utility in the forums and none since this one that I remember seeing!

There are lots of alternative utilities to do the same if you need one and Drive Cleanser has no done the job intended!

See webpage: 42 Free Data Destruction Software Programs for a comprehensive listing - any of these utilities can take a long time to run to completion depending on the size of the drive and the options selected (number of passes etc).
