Acronis True Image 11 - Is it compatible with Windows 7?
Hi, I have been using True Image 11 on my Dell Laptop which is running Windows XP. I havent had any problems but I am thinking of trying Windows 7 and I have not been able to find anything that tells me whether True Image 11 will work on a Windows 7 operating system. I can see there is an upgrade to fix Vista issues but it doesnt say anything about Windows 7. Will I need to upgrade once I migrate to Windows 7 and if so to what package?
Thanks
Steve

I haven't tried TI11 on W7.
TI11 may not install on W7 if MS have specifically added TI 11 as a 'banned' program, if it does install then it may not allow you to run TI 11 easily - this can be got around by renaming the TI executable.
Assuming TI 11 will install and run on W7 (TI 10 can be persauded), I would expect that most things will work apart from Mounting, this almost certainly won't work, and T&D.
You might have the problem that restoring an image might leave your sysstem requiring a system repair from the W7 DVD - this will depend on how you actually install W7. This will be down to TI 11 not knowing how to deal with the new sector offset arrangement MS introduced with Vista, and as mentioned depending on how you you've installed Vista/W7 depends on whether this affects your system or not.
If the rescue CD works on your current system then it will also work on the same system that is running W7.
I have a feeling that life might be easier with v2010, but would suggest you try the trial version on W7 before committing spondoolics to it.

Hello all,
Unfortunately, Acronis True Image 11 Home does not support Windows 7. As bodgy mentioned, even if you are able to install it and create a backup, you won't be able to mount/restore it since Acronis creates a virtual device for that purposes and this device drivers' are not compatible with Windows 7. Moreover, be aware that the installation can corrupt your Windows 7 because low-level drivers that used to create a snapshot are not compatible too.
You can purchase an upgrade to the latest version - Acronis True Image 2010 Home using the this link. However, I may recommend you to download a trial version before making the purchase in order to check how the software works on your computer.
Thank you.

Hi Ilya,
lately, I bought a new Windows 7 PC and tried to install the Acronis True Image 11 Home, that had worked on my old Windows XP workstation without problems over years. Unfortunatlely, I did not read your comment before! Nevertheless, the program was successfully installed, and I could create a backup without problems on my external hard disc. But I could not read the (text) files on the external disc, nor open the programs. Depite that, it was possible to transfer the text (and music) files to my new PC, but I failed to get back the programs from the backup.
What can I do now? Could a newer Version of ATI read the old (program) files and bring them back - provided that they run under Windows 7?
Thanks in advance,
Hardy

Any of your old programs from XP will need to be installed fresh onto Win7--and they may or may not be compatible with 7.
My suggestion would be to uninstall the old vesion 11 as it is not compatible with 7.
If you own the full version of 11, that qualifies you for using the upgrade version so the upgrade will cost you less money. When installing 2014, you will need to also input the version 11 serial number as well as the 2014 serial number. Or, if you buy the full version, you will only need the 2014 serial.
Do NOT try to install 2014 overtop the version 11. Do an uninstall first.
2014 will read your old backups so your personal stuff can be copied onto other folders or disks
Or, another alternative is to try the trial version of 2014 and see how it works. The 2014 trial CD can beused to recover files without purchasing.
Do NOT try to install 2014 overtop the version 11. Do an uninstall first.

Thank you, GroverH, for your good advice!
As Ilya wrote, the installation and use of ATIH 11 could corrupt the whole W7 - so I hope, that my system has not been damaged (I wonder, why my professional adviser did not know that)!
For the rest, I know what to do - as I own a full version of Acronis 11, I should upgrade to Acronis 2014. Concernig my old programs, I probably have to say goodbye to some of them......
