Acronis True Image 2010 build 6,029. Error Message " The system cannot find the file specified".

Thread needs solution

I have been using ATI 2010 for approx two weeks, the problem that I have is that the back ups run OK,
two or three times then I end up with the error message "The system cannot find the file specified", followed by " Specify the location of the volume 1", (Click browse to specify the volume location, "retry to try again, or click to cancel").
I am currently running Vista, but bought ATI 2010 to use when upgrading to Windows 7, the back up that I am trying to run is "C" drive to an external USB 500GB Buffalo drive. The back up appears to complete OK but the validation would appear to fail. I have run check disk on both the "C" drive and my external USB drive "G" with no errors reported on either drive. I have also reformatted the back up drive "G". I have also uninstalled ATI 2010 and reinstalled the latest update (build 6,029), however the problem still happens.
I previously used Norton Ghost 14 for my back ups using the same set up (back up "C" to external USB drive "G"), with no problems, I believe therefore that this is an issue with ATI 2010 rather than my set up.
I purchased ATI 2010 as Norton Ghost 14 was not listed as Windows 7 compatable, however as you can appreciate I am somewhat disappointed with ATI 2010.

Any help or advice to rectify this problem would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Yes, same exact problem here. Every time I run an incremental disk image backup in ATI 2010 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit), I get that same error message when it gets to the validation stage (it asks me to locate volume 1).

I currently have the same problem with True Image Server for Windows. What is going on?

Hello all,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Do not worry, I will help you with this situation.

This issue is related to backup corruption. The reason why product asks you for a second volume is that it can't locate the end of your archive.

Please note that corrupted archives could be created because there are some bad sectors or unreadable data resides on your HDD.

Please perform the following operations:

-Check the disks for errors

Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r"
where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that
checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

-Change the backup location (for example save your backup to the internal HDD instead external)

-Please try to perform the operations using Acronis Bootable Media. To create it please follow: Tools -> Create bootable rescue media. Then boot your machine from it and you will be able to use Acronis True Image Home without booting any OS.
Acronis Bootable Rescue Media is a standalone version of Acronis True Image Home, burned onto a CD and based on a Linux operating system.

If this does not help, please make sure that your RAM module is  is not corrupt as this can be the reason of the issue.

Please download the following archive:

    * CD http://www.memtest.org/download/2.01/memtest86+-2.01.iso.zip

Unpack the archive and burn the unpacked ISO file to CD.

We recommend you to refer to the following article if you are not familiar with ISO burning:
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm

After that boot your PC from the CD and memtest will start automatically. When it is 100% completed (1 or 2 passes), create a digital photo of the screen and  attach it to your answer in this thread.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Thank you.

I am having a problem where Acronis True Image Home 2010 Build 7,154 reports it can not find the file specified. See attached documents.

I have the program set up to do 3 incremental back ups and then a fulll back up and to delete the prior full backup. However, it "appears to fail" when creating the full back up and does not delete the prior back up.

If the program is not truly creating a reliable full back up then 3 incrementals then I would be unable to restore my system if it failed.

How can I correct this issue?
