Acronis True Image 2014 Hard Drive Docking Station compatibility
Hello,
I am looking to purchase a dual SATA docking station and one of the uses will be for cloning hard drives with ATI 2014. In my experience, after using the cloning function about a dozen times, I found that it will pretty much always work as long as both hard drives are directly connected to the SATA ports of the motherboard of a desktop computer.
The issue is when i have to clone hard drives at a client's office using a laptop, i have tried doing this using:
- Sabrent USB-DSC5 - http://www.sabrent.com/category/hard-drive-enclosures/USB-DSC5/
- Sabrent EC-UST25 - http://www.sabrent.com/category/hard-drive-enclosures/EC-UST25/
The problem arises when I use both these USB adapters to try and clone 2 hard drives; I can select the source disk with no problem, but the target disk in the ATI cloning function wizard is greyed out and i cannot select it (as if the disk is not compatible even though that disk was available to select as a source disk). I know this is due to the USB adapters because I can clone these exact 2 hard disks when connecting them to a desktop computer via SATA directly to the motherboard.
My question is, has anyone had experience with a dual docking station with support for 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives they can recommend?

Thanks for your answer shadowsports.
I should have mentioned that my work is in IT, therefore the cloning of drives I do is mainly for computers that are not my own, therefore it's just faster, when i am visiting a client that needs a drive cloned, to connect the source and destination drives to my laptop via USB and clone them.
I do initialize the drives before i attempt to select them as a destination disk, sometimes i even create a partition.
I do know that sometimes there are cloning issues caused by incompatible sector sizes, and in these cases i do the backup - restore procedure.
I also just now learned that some SATA-USB adapters change the reported disk sector size and this seems to be the root of the issue, so i am looking to find a SATA-USB docking station that does not change the reported disk sector size.
It's useful to know that creating a backup and restoring is the safer way and I will do that when possible.
