Acronis True Image Home 2011 creates full backups rather than selected differential backup
I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 on a PC with Windows 7. I checked Differential backup in the custom scheme which created the initial full backup (actually have two full backups). However, Acronis keeps creating full backups rather than the desired differential backup.
Please advise.

Have never defragmented...
I opened Acronis to capture a picture of my backup settings, but they were not there. Somehow all the settings got changed to "version chain" and other changes to the other tabs. The setting I used to generate the last backup was Custom/Differential and I am sure I SAVED those settings.

These are the settings you would want to make and save. Also double check the validation option to make sure the version is what you want to use.

I am saving your response for my next backup (don't do them all that frequently, not that many changes in a month). However, I did have the settings on Differential but did not create any full versions...will try using those (or similar) settings next time. Did notice that I had checked the "Save the settings as default" box rather than the Save As buttion. Will do both next time, but don't think I have space for an extra full chain.
Hope it works next time.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, be sure and choose the save as button to save the changes for that task.
The save settings as default does NOT save the task settings--it only saves the options settings with revised settings of your prior changing.

Hello ,
I have Acronis True Image Home Plus and would like to create an exact copy of my hard drive, where the Operating System and all the settings are reproduced on an external drive.
Although I read the instruction manual, it is still not clear which process I must select. I need to choose from :
Disk and partition backup
Clone image
One-click backup
Which one do I use, or is there yet another one?
Thanks, Adam

Adam,
If you want to create another disk that it the exact copy of your current disk, you have to use the cloning process.
If you want to a way to restore your disk to a new disk (including the OS, settings, applications, in short, everything), you have to use a disk and partition backup (image backup).
Both use the same technology. The difference is that cloning lays out the information directly on another disk, whereas an image backup stores the information in a TIB file for future use.
Cloning is less flexible, because you have to "use up" an entire disk for the reproduction. Even when users change disk, it is better to do a disk and partition backup simply because the original disk is out of the process (there is no risk of data loss).
Don't use the one-click backup. There is nothing wrong with it, you will simply outgrow its basic settings very fast.

I completed the reaquired two full backups before attempting a differential backup. Just tried to do a differential backup as shown in your screen capture and noticed that there is no SAVE button in ATI2011. There is a "save as default settings" button which I always click. I used the settings shown in your screen capture for the differential backup, but still got a full backup????
Please advise.

Please post a picture of your custom scheme--like my sample in post #3.
If the task is set up properly, after the first full backup, then remaining backups will be a differential until you reach your dif quota. Then the settings repeat themselves with 1 full plus x diff so I am unsure how you got your "two required backups".
As stated in an earlier posting. The "save as default" settings does not make changes to your existing task unless you save the task. When you see the "save as default", there should be "OK" button on the pages where the custom task is listed. Editing a task is not recommended.
This review of the backup could be helpful.
