Acronis True Image Home 2012 Activation: Troubleshooting, and Useful Links

Thread needs solution

Dear Community,

As you already know, Acronis True Image Home 2012 no longer requires reinstallation when switching from trial version to full one, as we've introduced new feature: Activation. Check the Activation Overview article for more details.

From now on whenever you decide to move from trial to full version, all you need is to start the product, and and click the blue question mark at the top right. Select Upgrade to full version, and enter your serial number (check this KB article for the step-by-step screenshots).

Normally this feature works without any issues, but in case you've faced one, you might find it in the described in one of the below KB articles. Feel free to refer to them for solution:

  1. Acronis True Image Home 2012 Errors out "No activation ID found in the license file"
  2. Acronis True Image Home 2012: Cannot Activate Trial Version with Upgrade Key
  3. Acronis True Image Home 2012: Impossible To Activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager If GRUB Loader Is Used

You might also find the following articles useful:

  1. Acronis True Image Home 2012: Assigning Installation to Another Machine
  2. Acronis True Image Home 2012: Replacing Serial Number

If the issue you've faced is not described in any of the articles above, please do the following:

  1. Make sure you're following the correct procedure: see Acronis True Image Home 2012: Activation
  2. If product reports that it fails to connect to Activation server (even though the machine is connected to Internet), please try to activate the product manually as described in Acronis True Image Home 2012: Activation  -> Manual activation from another machine;
  3. If activation via Activation page fails or any other type of activation issue is experienced, collect the following information and provide it to us via Private Message:
    - Serial number;
    - Screenshot of the error message;
    - Step-by-step description of the issue;

Please note that this thread is related to the product activation issues. All unrelated comments will be removed from the thread without notifications.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

I am unable to find a post in the forum which discusses an issue which I have encountered, I am receiving an information window from Acronis True Image Home - Too Many activations. The only action words in the window are Resolve problem. Selecting Resolve problem leads me through the process of entering the upgrade code for the Acronis True Image Home 2012 Plus Pack and the key code for the previous version. I have entered the code for Acronis True Image Home 2012. I am prompted to select the machine ID from which the activation will be removed/transferred. The only selection option is the current Machine ID This is the only machine that the Acronis True Image Home 2012 product has been installed. When I obtain a listing of key codes from my account, there are 4 key codes; Acronis True Image 2009 Home, Acronis True image Home 2011, Acronis True Image Home 2012, and Acronis True Image Home 2012 Plus Pack.

Activation issue;

My hard drive went bad in the new computer. I recovered on a new disk drive in new computer. There were two option and one them being if I wanted to move license from old to new. I chose that option. It opened up Microsoft IE with message at the bottom left indicating web site found, waiting for reply. That message is there for now two days with my mouse on hourglass. Is activation server down for two days?

I bought full version of Acronis True Image home 2012 a month ago and used to back up my old computer.

Any ideas why I can not re-activate?

Thanks.

Baal

Hallo zusammen,

@Terry van Valkenburgh,

If you click on the link that shows up in the message it should take you to the Acronis Activation webpage, where you can delete the PC out of the list and then re-activate it. If the weblink doesn't work I can post a direct link when I get home.

***EDIT*****

As promised: manual link

I have 6 copies of Acronis True Image Home 2012 running (2 Family Packs) on 6 separate computers. None of the computers is connected to the internet. Acronis installed fine on all of these machines, and I was able to manually activate each of them from another computer just fine. However, now after several months (and after my 30 days of tech support), it has begun to complain that activation is required again. This has happened on at least 3 of the machines. I can solve the issue by re-inputting the same license code I first received during manual activation several months ago, but this is seriously inconvenient, especially because many of these machines are not regularly monitored. For example, I recently found out that one of the machines had not backed up for two months because of this issue. How can I get the activations to "stick"?

Kenton,

Do you have any registry cleaners that might be removing the activated entry in registry running?

I think Acronis are looking into the 'lost activation' problems reported.

Colin,

Thanks for your response. No, these are pretty much stock Windows XP installations. There is no registry cleaner running.

I am getting a message in the lower right corner of my screen that The hardware ID has changed.
Below that is says " Activate now " but that is crossed out.

What should I do?

I have also installed Acronis in Windows 8 Customer Preview running dual booted on the same machine.
It works fine there.

Arizona Willie,

Which OS are you getting that message in?

Which boot loader do you have set as primary, Windows 8?

I have my Windows 8's (I've Developer and RC on my system) installed as virtual drives, but Windows 8 boot loader is the master boot menu which then loads my Windows 7 boot menu. I'm not getting the message you see but I'm wondering if that is because of them being installed as VHD's.

Is your TIH actually working properly apart from the error message?

I have Windows 7 on a SSD as my main boot drive.

Windows 8 is on a SATA 3 platter drive.

If I want Windows 8 I reboot and hit F8 to get the boot menu otherwise it boots into Windows 7.

Primitive but it works.

When I click on the box with the error message from TIH it locks up the computer so I have to reboot.

I just uninstalled TIH.

Figured it couldn't get any worse.

Later I will re - install it and see what happens.

I have been using the Rescue disk to create and restore backups for Windows 7.

TIH in Windows 8 seems to be working fine.

I have also used TIH in Windows 8 to make a couple of backups of the Windows 7 boot disk .. figured it never hurts to have multiple backups.

There are some operations that don't work correctly in W8, though of course that should be no surprise as 2012 is not as yet W8 compatible.

Did it still work properly in W7 despite the information message?

I'm still thinking along the lines that the W8 install has altered part of the boot partition which is why you are getting that information message.

No Windows 8 and Windows 7 are on completely different drives.

Acronis works fine in Windows 8 -- used to work fine in Windows 7 but something happened and it thinks the hardware ID changed and I had to remove it. If I clicked on the dialogue box about the error it locked up the computer. Ungood.

I haven't re-installed it yet ... maybe later today.

I can always use my Rescue disk to make a backup / restore if need be.

In fact, I have used Acronis in Windows 8 to back up the Windows 7 disk. Works just fine. In fact, it should work better because by backing up the Windows 7 disk without the Windows 7 OS files being in use they can be copied with no problem. Don't need shadow copy or any other tricks.

I have the same issue that Terry reported; I just updated the software and now the system reports too many activations--even though I only ever installed it on this computer! And it now wants me to de-activate this computer! I just want to use the software--which i paid for--and I really don't want to pay for support when the problem is obviously the upgrade. Anyone have any ideas? Should I just de-activate it on this computer and re-activate it on this same computer? Will that work? Becaus eif now, then i just got robbed of software I paid for.

De-activate it on the PC you have, then re-activate it after a reboot. There is a link, which I will post once I get home this afternoon.

If these two options fail, you'll have to contact Support to get a resolution.

The link which might help.

Activation

Hopefully this qualifies as an activation issue!

I purchased an upgrade to the new Home 1012. When I purchased, I clicked that I wanted to be able to use 2012 on multilple computers - Evidently that didn't work.

I have 3 computers. I installed it on on the first and it's up and running. I installed it on the second and it installed fine but when I went to activate it, I was told that I had used up my one (1) activation.

I went to Acronis chat to find out how to purchase two more activations and was told basically that I needed to pay $10 for PPI support so that I could just ASK the question.

That seems really dumb! I suppose that I could just go and purchase two more upgrades like they were new, but I really thought I'd be able to do so from inside my account so that I keep things all together.

What to do?

Kenneth,

Are you positive you have a 3 machine serial number? Double check in your account to see if it shows up as a 1 or 3 machine serial.
If you still have the PDF invoice double check it says 3 PC licence, it is possible you have received a one machine serial instead of a 3 machine one.

If that is the case, Acronis Sales are the people to contact.

Hi,

I recently had to reinstall Acronis TI 2012 when my operating system, Windows 7 64, failed because of a disc problem. After many confused (and confusing) attempts I finally completed a successful install on my new C drive. The backup seems to be running OK but I see an error message "too many activations" and a link to resolve the issue. When I tried to sign in, using my email address and password, after following the link I got the following message: "The serial number is registered to another account. Please submit the credentials of that account or activate with another serial number." As far as I know I have no other account. I'd appreciate any ideas for resolving this.

Thanks

Ken

Ken,

Do you have more than one email address, one you might have used to register TIH at sometime?

Ken,
If you log on to the main acronis site at www.acronis.com, and go to My Products and Downloads, is your copy of ATIH 2012 shown in the registered products list? It is possible someone else may have registered your product serial number, or you may have mistyped your email address when registering your product. You will need to contact Acronis customer service to get this corrected. http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html. Select customer care from the Step one pulldown on the left, and Registration and Account Issues on the left hand side pulldown, skip Step 2 and then select Live chat. They should be able to get you straightened out. See attached file for details.

I installed the 2012 trial.Cannot get all of it out.
Now, Acronis 2010 runs but NOT RESPONDING. is the error.I have uninstalled and reinstalled etc
I cannot go back and pick up a previous TIB. Booting a disk from restart does not show any TIB
on my system.

2010 has been working on my Win-7-64 for a long time.

Harry,

I think the best think to do is to download the 2012 registry cleaner, run it, then reboot after rebooting install 2010.

The 2012 cleaner is here. Running this will also stop any other Acronsi program running as well, so if you have other Acronis products installed they will need to be re-installed as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Booting a disk doesn't show any TIB files', do you mean actual tib files when you look in Windows Explorer or True Image doesn't find and show the tib files in its' task list?

I do not understand. What is meant by installation code. Is the serial number when you purchased the software. When I enter for manual activation it asks "Enter your installation code to get the activation code". When I enter the serial number it is not accepting. Please clarify.

Dorairajan,

Activation should be automatic if you are connected to the Internet.

p>

Did you have the trial version installed previously?

Is this a downloaded copy or a purchased boxed version?

Have you checked this webpage

Could you provide a screen shot of what your are seeing?

Try reinstalling 2012 which might solve the need for an activation code.

Register your serial number in your Acronis account and if none of the above work, contact Acronis Support after you've logged into your Acronis account.

***edited to remove an incorrect paragraph****

THERE IS NO PROBLEM IN ACTIVATING ONLINE. MY QUESTION IS WHAT IS MEANT BY INSTALLATION CODE. IN THE MANUAL
ACTIVATION LINK THERE IS A LINK FOR INPUTTING INSTALLATION CODE. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS MEANT BY THAT CODE.
NOBODY IS GIVING STRAIGHT REPLY. IN MACRIUM REFLECT EDITION THEY PROVIDE ACTIVATION KEY FOR YOUR PURCHASED SERIAL FROM WHICH
ONE CAN ACTIVATE OFFLINE ON ANY OF THE PARTITION OF THE SAME PC AS MANY TIMES YOU WANT. WHY THIS IS
NOT PROVIDED AUTOMATICALLY TO ACRONIS USERS. THANKS.

Dorairajan,
When ATIH 2012 is installed, the serial number is used to install the product. Activation is a separate process that can be done during install or after installation from inside the product. If you are on a system that does not have internet access, you must follow the directions found here: http://kb.acronis.com/content/22152#

I modified the directions below to help clarifiy the steps:

If the computer where you install Acronis True Image Home 2012 does not have an Internet connection or if the program cannot connect to Acronis Activation Server ("Failed to connect to the Acronis activation server"), you can activate the program manually from another machine that is connected to the Internet:

To generate an activation code follow these steps:

1. Open Acronis True Image Home 2012 on the computer you wish to activate. (In your case the one without Internet access)
2. Go to Help -> Activate, then select the option Activate from another computer:
3. The program will display an installation code. Press Save to file to save the code to a file. (LIC format) or write it down. example: https://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2011/06/22152/activa…
4. Transfer the saved .LIC file (or take your written code with you) to a computer with Internet access.
5. Go to the Activation page (http://www.acronis.com/activation), and submit the installation code that you received from the program in step 3, (you can type it in manually, or use the .LIC file) and press Get activation code. An activation code will be generated. example: https://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2011/06/22152/activa… and https://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2011/06/22152/activa…
6. Save the activation code to a file or write it down. Your copy (the one installed on the computer without internet access in step 1) of Acronis True Image Home 2012 will be activated when you input the Activation code from step 5.

To transfer the activation code follow these steps:

1. Launch Acronis True Image Home 2012 (from the computer in step 1 above) and go to Help-> Activate, then again select the option Activate from another computer. Once again, the program will display Acronis True Image Home 2012 Activation window with your installation code.
2. Press Load from file (or type in the activation code from step 5 above) to submit the activation code and press Activate. example: https://kb.acronis.com/system/files/content/2011/06/22152/activation11…

This will activate the installation of ATIH 2012 on that computer. Remeber that the product has to be activated on each machine it is installed on, and only one activation (per serial number) can be in use at a time, unless you purchased the family pack. The Family Pack serial number allows three simultaneous activations

Hope this helps you out some.

I am having problems moving my license to a new laptop. Previous laptop's screen failed, so I moved its hard drive to a new laptop of exactly the same hardware, except for serial number of course.

I have Acronis True Image Home 2012.

What I now see is the "too many activations" message. I followed the instructions for moving my activation. I was redirected to the web site dialogue. Everything went fine as far as the web site is concerned; it said it moved the activation just fine. I rebooted my laptop. I still get the "too many activations" error. I have done this sequence several times. Each time the web site "move activation" dialogue goes fine, and each time I still see the "too many activations" error after my reboot.

Brian

Brian,

Now that Acronis think you have transferred your activation, try running a repair install of 2013 itself.

Colin, thank you very much for trying to help me. I am grateful that you volunteer.

I tried this morning to do the repair installation by running the acronis-download-ATIH2012_6131_en-US.exe file Acronis gave me when I purchased my product last June. Once the program launched, I selected "repair installation".

The repair install failed. Here is the reason text:
* Cannot automatically install the following products since their newer versions are already installed.
I saved the AcronisTrueImage.msi.txt installer error log file.

After the repair install failed, I launched the ATIH client and looked in Help->About. It proclaims ATIH 2012, update 2, build 7119. I guess sometime since last June the software updated itself, and now the install image .exe file I have is out of date.

During said client launch so as to look in Help->About, I also noticed in the bottom left corner of the window a blue "i" icon with this message: This product has been successfully activated.

Last night's incremental backup seems to have worked. I see last night's .tib file on my home LAN's disk server, and the size of the .tib file seems about right.

I guess I will just keep watching and post here again if I am given another popup or error message about too many activations, unless there is something else you'd like me to investigate.

Thank you,
Brian

I purchased True Image Home 2012(English), online late in 2011 and have the download file and an email with the product activation serial number.
I also have the printed receipt & Invoice number.

Before I could install it in 2011 my PC had several problems resulting in a rebuild with an upgrade from XP to Windows7.
All my software and downloads were saved before the rebuild.
I then forgot to install the software and it has never been used.

I am now trying to install it and have been online and successfully registered the product and product activation key with Acronis.

When I run the Install it only gets as far as asking for the Activation Key, which I then paste from my original email (recieved when I purchased the software).
The Product Key is rejected as invalid.

Looking at theAcronissupport it seems I have to start purchasing support creidits, which seems poor just to install a product.

Can you please advise on any action I should take.

Thank You

Dave

David,

Is your 2012 key an upgrade or full serial number?

Is your 2012 install over the top of 2011 or a brand new install?

Have you tried uninstalling 2012 and running the 2012 cleaner, rebooting and then seeing if on install, 2012 recognises your key?

Colin

Thanks for the quick reply.

The product had not been installed on theWin XP version before the rebuild and this is my first attempt at installing, though I have had the downloaded software for just over a year.
Does the Activation key remain valid all that time?

Before the PC was rebuilt with Win7 the hard drive was reformatted.

It is a full version and I had not had any earlier versions.

I haven't got any program/icon/result from a program search to select to try and uninstall as the install attempts have not got past the Invalid activation code message.

I will look for the 2012 Cleaner and try it out.

Have you any further options or suggestions.

Thanks

Dave

In addition to my last post, giving replies

I have run the 2012 Cleaner but it has not cured the problem.

I still have a purchased copy of Acronis True Image 2012 that will not install.

This is a repeat question
I did not register the product until a short while ago.
Would this affect the activation code (64 digit product code) given to me by email when I bought the software in late 2011.

I have no idea what to try next.

Looking forward to any further comments.

Thanks

Dave

David,

Since you registered your 2012 version online, you should download the current build (2012 build 7133) from your online account, and then attempt the install from the newly downloaded installation file.

You can also download the "trial" copy from here: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/link/?ATIH2012_trial_en-U…. This can also be used to install the 2012 full product by using a purchased 2012 serial number.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I downloaded the latest 2012 version as suggested and it all installed without a problem using the product key from my original purchase.

Thanks very much for the help.

Now I just have to learn how to use it but that will be another topic.

This problem can be closed.
Thanks again.

Dave

Hi,

Firstly i had to reïnstall windows 7 and a short time after that my external harddrive crashed.
So my saved details are gone now.

What do i have to do now to get my activation code again? (2012)

Martin,

Since you are logged in here, can you log in to the main Acronis site here: https://www.acronis.com/my/products/ ?

If so, are your products in the list? If they are you can click on the "Get All Serials" link on your product.

If you did not register your serial number, Acronis support can help you out.

Contact support here: www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html

I am very gratefull to you james !!

The first link helped me out !!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!

I am back :-(

After manually cleaning the registry etc etc i could install acronis till the serial. Then it was a no go.

I had a 2009 version but that isn`t available anymore. That file i downloaded is an 2013 version that
i now see. And with this version my serial isn`t accepted.

Tjeeeezzzzz this gives me an headache.

What now?

Any products that you registered should be available for download. For example, I am still able to download version 8 which is nine years old.

You would need the serial number specific to the version you're installing.

Martin,

What version of True Image are you trying to install. (Which version does your serial number belong to?)

True Image 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 installers are still available (as well as older versions).

Thanks for answering !

The serial is for the 2009 version.

I am searching me blind for a downloadlink. :(

Thanks, but i have already found one on a german site.

Guys, this must be made easier. Making a cleaning tool for your registry isn`t difficult and
not all registry traces are removable.

And put it on your mainsite, version 2009, 2010 etc etc..

It was frustrating, i have patience that saved me.

My gosh......

I have installed the 2009 version and putted my serial in the program.

Now i get, the serial number is incorrect, pls enter the correct one.

My goshhh,

I give up for now. I am again back to the beginning.

Firstly again manually delete all acronis traces. :(

is there not a chance that you're entering the wrong serial number for the version you've installed?
You might try installing on a different PC to test that theory.
