Acronis True Image Home with WD 3 Terabyte drives problem

Thread needs solution

ATIH2010 Crashes at launch or when choosing Destination Disk if that Destination Disk is a Western Digital 3 Terabyte disk. ATIH11 is fine with the larger WD-external Disks but ATIH2010 crashes. I have reverted back to ATIH11.

I have been with this problem now for about 3 days. I have tried re-installing ATIH2010, and re-installing after the ATIH-Removal tool. I just upgraded my Internal Hard-Drives to 600GB each (there are two, Seagate). For that I used the Apricorn Software that is from the same origin, but incompatible with, the Acronis software. At first I thought that some remnant of the Apricorn Software might be to blame, but I have completely removed the Apricorn EasyGigII from my System, and still ATIH2010 crashes.

Strangely, ATIH11 has NO problem with the 3 Terabyte WD External Drives. I bought a WD MyBook 3T and a WD Elements 3T, both cause ATIH2010 to crash, but ATIH11 is fine.

I have also tried downloading the newest version of the ATIH2010 and updating, but the crashes remain.

When ATIH2010 starts up AND either of the WD Drives are online there is a crash. Most times ATIH crashes immediately on launch, causing a white screen and the meaningless Windows pledge to find a solution. There is no message from ATIH2010. On rare occasions, ATIH2010 will actually start and I am able to select the Back Up Source path, but when I go to the next page of the Back Up wizard (Back Up Destination), ATIH2010 crashes, apparently trying to read the WD 3T Drive(s). If the the WD Drives are offline, ATIH2010 works normally. I have no problem with my Lacie or Maxtor Drives and ATIH2010.

As of now, I am using ATIH11 because its newer brother is unworkable. By the way, the Apricorn version (very ancient) also has NO problem with the WD 3T External Drives.

I have tried various permutations with the WD-Drive-Drivers: no Drivers, SES-Drivers and Smart Ware Drivers. None of these options work. The WD-Drives appears to be NTFS, which is expected. I do not want to switch them over to FAT32. I basically only do Image Back Ups of my entire system.

I have a Toshiba X205-7483 Laptop running Windows Vista HP.

If anyone has any idea what might be going on, please let me know or even if you have the same problem, that way I will know that my problem is not just specific to my machine/software environment.

I don't think your problem is just specific to your computer/software environment. 3 of my computers (laptop and desktop) are using ATIH2010 since February 2010 with a WD 1.5Tbyte external hard drive without any problem. Recently, I purchased a WD 3Tbyte (My Book) hard drive and just tried to use ATIH2010 to backup my computers onto it. However, it crashes every single time when I pointed the destination as the 3Tbyte HD. The OSes on my computers are Window 7 64 bits and Vista 32 bits. The brand of my computers are HP and Dell. I even updated the ATIH2010 to the latest build (2011-2-4) but the problem still persists. I downloaded the ATIH2012 and it did not crash. I guess you need to either downgrade to ATIH11 or upgrade to ATIH2012 in order to work with this WD 3Tbytes (my book) external hard drive.

Another option would be to split the 3 into two 1.5TB

Does it have 4kb logical sector size (unlike Advanced Fromat drives with $kb physical and 512b logical) ?
