Acronis won't start anymore+ sector error

Thread needs solution

I freshly installed acronis and yesterday I tried to mount my backup from my external USB hdd.

When I press mount it said processing, and came with an error failed to read from sector 1,565,565,871 of harddisk 2 cancel retry ignore

I pressed ignore and I got the screen with my image and it seemed to work like normal the image was able to mount.

Now when I start acronis again I get the welcome popup but it's all grey and not responding. I tried restarting PC and re-installing but nothing works...

I can however rightclick the image and press mount which will work, but I cannot enter main menu anymore..

What's going on???

And those sector errors, how can I solve that? Is this result of a faulty image?

Hello Reconhell,

thank you for opening the thread regarding this questions, I'd like to assist you.

These issues might be - and might be not - connected. We will be able to say for sure only after some investigation. Could you please send us the dump file of the TrueImage process, and Procmon output?

I would also strongly recommend to go to Start -> Run -> cmd, issue there "chkdsk /f /r" command, and reboot the machine. Upon booting Windows will check the drive for consistency, and fix errors if any (usually it solved the "failed to read from sector..." error).

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

The chkdsk /f /r will take agesssssss on my drive... but on which drive is it suggested? It talks about harddrive 2... my image is located on my external USB HDD. I guess they mean the error occured there and not on my normal sata harddrive?

Anyway for the dump files:

Here they are

Thank you.

Hi Reconhell,

Thank you for keeping us posted.

According to the error message the problem occurs on the target location, but we do recommend to run chkdsk on both drives.

I'm downloading the dump,  will  get back to you once I check it.

Thank you!

I willl, so to run chkdsk. but with what behind it? chkdsk /r ? /f ? or something else behind?

From a command prompt:

CHKDSK X: /R (where x is the drive letter of the disk being checked)

the /r option checks and fixes disk errors and file errors.

the /f opion checks and fixes file errors only.

It is being suggested that you check both disks. Let the test run overnight.

CHKDSK /?
will provide info about the command.

Ive been checking the 3 TB external HDD for like 48 hours now AND STILL NOT DONE.

JEEZ. This is what I mean, it's almost impossible.

It says 49616 files processed and its been like that for an hour or so, the whole drive has like 30 gb free and 50.000 ish files.

CHKSDSK FINALLY FINISHED. And tadaaaaa the disk found NO errors -_-

I re-installed acronis again.. so far it starts again.. but who knows next boot.

I still get the error when trying to mount HDD though , about sector 1.5 million whatever...

any clue?

The results of the chkdsk can be found in the Events log under applications settings.

Does it identify which drive has the errors?

Like I said, CHKDSK doesn t give any Error!!! Meaning it has no errors!

Hello Reconhell,

Thank you for the update, and for keeping us posted.

The dump file didn't reveal any useful information, and we still haven't received Procmon log from you (we'd like to check it, do you mind sending it to us?). The error might also be related to the errors in the archive itself as well. I would suggest you to run a validation on it or create a new backup, and check whether mounting works fine with the new image.
