Advantage ? To running backup from bootable media

Thread needs solution

I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2010 (build 6,053) on the advise of several IT folks I know. They get into the details far more than I do and I have what I hope is a simple issue.
Are there advantages to running a full system, full partition backup from the external bootable media?
In the past with other software I always had problems running a full backup from within Windows.
There are a number of processes running that are a best time consuming to stop and in the worst case sometimes difficult to stop.
These processes namely Norton 360 seem to slow the backup down a lot.
Also I was never able to get any sort of validation to work from a backup made from within Widows. Seems as though something changes from the time the backup starts and finishes.
Are these concerns with this software?
Would I be better of running a full backup from the bootable copy?
Thanks!
