After changing backup configuration/settings existing backup chain will not be continued

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have the following problem: I have an existing backup chain of one full backup "MyBackup.tib" and two incremental backups "MyBackup2.tib" and "MyBackup3.tib". If I change the backup configuration/settings, e.g. the validation time, and save them, then ATI2011 Build 5519 did not continue my existing backup chain, it starts a new one with a full backup. This is also the case, when a backup is disconnected from the "my backup"-list and must then manually be added with "search for backups". The backup settings then didn't recognize the existing backup chain and it is not possible to continue the existing backup chain. The name of the new backup is then "MyBackup(1).tib" instead of "MyBackup4.tib" for the third incremental backup in chain.

How can I continue a existing backup chain in this case after changing the backup configuration or after manually adding a backup chain?

We hope this will be changed in the next build. It occurs also with tasks that only do fulls and 0 incs. Editing a task orphans the existing backups-or more often in my experience, gets them listed as a separate task. thre's a chance then that ati2011 will cross the linkID for each task, causing some confusion in how the backups are handled in the automated file management. A newer schedule module seems to fix this so we users have hopes that the impending next build will have what you are looking for.

Helmut,
The new version 2011 is very different than past versions. Speaking for myself, I would not want to put my restorability at risk by mixing two versions within the same chain. I would recommend that you create new backup tasks for 2011. It's a pain but you would be safer IMHO.

I don't think this is a past version issue. I read it as referring to the issue within ati2011.

Hallo GroverH,

I didn't use any backup tasks from ATI2010; it a clean installation of ATI2011 and its only there a problem.

Hallo,

if I create a new backup task by adding with "search for backup" my existing backup chain "MyBackup.tib", "MyBackup2.tib" and "MyBackup3.tib", and then click on "backup now" the existing backup chain will not be continued, a new full backup "MyBackup(1).tib" is created.
