Am I covered for a disk failure?
I am preparing to upgrade to windows XP sp3. I have used acronis true image home 2010 to perform the following:
Created the Bootable Media containing the acronis s/w on a dvd
Performed a backup of all partitions on my internal hard drive. The backup was successful and validated successfully. The backup is onto a usb mounted disk drive.
Created the system report which I have attached
If something happens and I loose my internal disk drive, will I be able to rebuild it using the bootable media to run acronis and the partition backups on my external usb mounted disk drive? What features of the backup do I need to ensure were enabled to be able to recover the internal disk drive(contains the OS)?
If not, how can I split the backup that I created into pieces so that I can place it onto dvd's?(It took about 6 hours to do the backup and I really do not want to repeat the process).
If neither would work, what must I do to be able to recover from a disk failure starting the recovery process from the created bootable media with acronis?
Thanks

Tatou,
Thanks for the input.
I was able to successfully boot from the acronis bootable media and bring up acronis.
I saw my backup, when I clicked restore, but the backup could not be found, the USB drive did not show up.
Looks as if I have the following options:
1) See if I could do a recovery via FTP - I have a laptop on the network I could use, but would need to split the backup into 2GB pieces. I did not see a way to do this from the tools menu. I would have to redo the backup specifying splitting?
2)Put the backup on DVD and try validating from there - Same issue with splitting the backup.
3)I see something about the mention of a network share as the destination for a backup, I do not see anything about using this to do the restore of the disk containing the OS.
4)Internal disk, I do not have another internal disk.

When you use the bootable media, the disk drive letters will most likely be applied differently than they were with your running system. The archive the Acronis program shows you may not be where it thinks it is (was).
Did you try "Browse for backup"? It's possible your archive is there, just that the drive that contains it now has a different drive letter than when the archive was made.
Edit: Sorry, just saw that you were using a USB-attached drive...

Yes I did browse, I did not see any devices that look anything like my USB disk drives.

not sure if this will help your issue or not but its worth a shot.
Acronis offers a bootable image which is slightly different/upgraded from what you can build yourself. its accessible your acronis account which you get by going to www.acronis.com clicking user login then logging in then clicking myproduct&downloads)
There is a pane/block dedicated to your ti_2010 license which has a "bootable" tab from which you can download the iso you then burn this onto a cd.

Chris
It is good you are doing this now rather than after your drive has crashed and you are trying to restore.
Making sure your backup will actually restore BEFORE you need to restore is a key part of any backup strategy. Its a pity that Acronis don't emphasise it
I would not use FTP or DVD or network. They seem problematic.
Lets see if you we can get the external USB drive recognised.
Firstly I would try the suggestion by Oracledba.
Download the ISO file from the Acronis site. The tab he is referring to looks like this

Burn the ISO and boot- see if you can see the USB drive
2
The other option if that doesn't work is to build a WinPE disk either usingBartPE (free) or Mustang's PEBuilder (commercial). This will give you a Windows Boot environment with all the windows drivers so you should have no trouble seeing the USB drive (and its faster)
I use WinPE to do my restores and backups (although the Linux does work)
Here is the link to BartPE http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
You will need the BARTPE plugin that can be downloaded from the same area on the Acronis site mentioned before.
3
You can see if Acronis will send you a special ISO file that will work on your configuration
4
Final option is to use another product- get your money back if you can't get it to work
Lets know how you get on with the 1st option
PS What build of 2010 are you using and what is your hardware setup?

I do not see anything indicating bootable. The only tabs I see are Latest Build, Support, Upgrades.
Latest build has a download button, but no options for getting the ISO

What you described matches what I have for version 9 and version 10
Are you sure you have version "2010" or are looking at the 2010 section of this panel/webpage.
The screen you are looking for will look just like this post...

I attached the system report in the original posting, that should answer any current configuration questions.
After I get this figured out for my XP machine, I will need to do it again for my Window 7 laptop which is 64 bit. This kind of knocks out BartPE and Mustang PE. From what I have read about the 2010 plus pack, It is extremely involved, I hope to not have to take that route especially without tech support. I do not have the option of adding a second internal disk to the laptop, I need to be able to do the recovery via USB disks.
Seems as if my best option is to get an ISO image from Acronis. Since I do not have a tab to download it, how does one go about that? I do not believe I have had the software for 30 days.

I see from your logs you own at least two versions of acronis.
I still say that while your account may not have that "bootable" tab for your old version
There should be be a panel with the title "Acronis True Image 2010 Home upgrade" which will have the "bootable" tab.
if you don't see such a tab for your 2010 license then I would open a chat window with acronis point them to this topic and ask them why not.
