another case of the ERROR blues === SOLVED
2 weeks since my last backup so I try to initiate a full backup and I get the window saying "Failed to ???" In other words nothing is working. This same thing happened earlier last year with the bad update.
The only thing I could do here is look for an update or do a uninstall-reinstall. No update I have the newest so I have to uninstall. I download the newest build and while I'm installing it i get an error and it won't go any further. I'll attach the error. Any help would be great. I'm really getting tired of Acronis.

Matthew,
Try this:
- use the Acronis 2011 cleanup utility,
- reboot,
- reinstall 2011.

If you're going to uninstall, run the cleanup and reinstall, then it's a good idea to remove as much from memory as you can by using msconfig.exe.
you can get details on this here:
http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/index.html
removing unnecessary services and start-up programs while uninstalling and installing makes it less liekly that you will have conflicts that corrupt the install or uninstall.

I don't have it installed anymore so I don't know how to run the cleanup. But I am going through and deleting any files & folders that are left.

You don't have to have ATI installed to runt he cleanup. It's an exe so you can just run it. It won't hurt if it doesn't find anything.

That cleanup with the "FREE SCAN"? Is that what your talking about? If not be more precise on the URL please. I will not do the FREE one just for it to tell me to buy it. I have every reg cleaner and junk file cleaner program under the sun already.

Look in the Stickies. You'll find it without any trouble.
Or you can go straight here
http://kb.acronis.com/content/14871
scroll down a bit to where it says:
"1.Download Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility, unpack and run it: "
Click on the that link or right click and save it to one of your disks. It's a zip file, unzip the single file within the zip -- that's it, that's the cleanup utility.

i ran the Cleanup Utility and the same error comes up. Could it be a windows error? I may nee to do a windows re install. Can I use my Acornis restore disk to make a back ups? Or does the program need to be installed?

You can do backup from the Disk if you have a fully paid version (the CD the program came on with is a bootable CD). Otherwise, you have to prepare a recovery CD from ATI (I know you precisely cannot install ATI, but you might be able to do that on another computer).
If you have no other programs using the Microsoft Runtime environements (the C++ 2008 or C++ 2010 things you have in the list of installed programs), you can try to uninstall these. Then, reinstall Acronis 2011. If you break another program, you will have to reinstall it.
This might work. At any rate, the type of errors you see need developer insights in the installer to be debugged.

The only Full CD I have is the old version 10. All the rest were downloaded upgrades. This looks like a total windows reinstall to get it back working again. I shouldn't be have these problems with a paid program. Since the last upgrade problem last year I have been doing two backups first with Acronis and another with Paragon. For the time being I will continue using the free program from Paragon. I can't see myself upgrading again. Thanks for all the help.

UPDATE: Solved
They day all this happened I had made a backup image with the free Paragon program first then i went to make a back up with Acronis. You see I found out that you can't trust just one program just like you have to store backup in more than one place. Well as you know I was unable to get Acronis to work or reinstall and I was going to just give up on Acronis (still might) and just use paragon. But 2 days ago i got a BSOD and long story short I had to restore using my Paragon image. After I was up and running I decided to try Acronis again since the restore brought me back far enough to pre-trouble status. I fired it up and it downloaded the new version and everything is ok now. Plus pack updated itself also. So I made a Acronis image and all is good. BUT my backup practices have changed. I will not solely depend on just one program anymore.
Thanks to all those who tried to help.

Matthew,
If you have some time, click on my signature link below and check out item #12. Many of us use a variety of backup methods.

Thank you, Lots of good info there. To much to digest in one reading. Again i am suggesting to everyone I come in contact with to make backups with at least 2 different programs. Yes I had TI images fail even after they were validated so can not feel safe anymore after having been down that road. And as for that Karen Rep.. I use free Cobian. As for moving images over there and over there, that may be the cause of failure. I use Teracopy to insure the copied file matches the original.
PS I thought i was the only "defragaholic" nut that likes to watch the defrag screen LOL too funny!!
