Archive bit or file date?

Thread needs solution

How does True Image decide which files have been changed for differential or incremental backups since the last full backup? Does it use the archive bit or does it go by the file date? The reason I'm asking is I need to find out if using windows 7/windows server backups will interfere with each other. If I run a True Image backup with incrementals and also run Windows home server backups (at different times) , will one or the other mark the file as backed up so the other won't back it up?

Gordon,

I am eagerly awaiting for an answer from Acronis to your question. I ran the following test and am confused by the result ....

  1. Created a new folder
  2. Created three simple text files in that folder
  3. Ran a FULL backup. As expected, the backup archive had the folder and the three files
  4. Without changing anything, ran a DIFFERENTIAL backup using the .tib created in Step 3 as the base
  5. The differential archive had the folder and the three files! Since no changes had been made to any of the three files, I did NOT expect them or the parent folder to be present in the differential archive.

Cheers .... Wayne

Still no answer Gordon!

Please would someone from Acronis comment on my test results above?

Thank-you,

Wayne
