ATI 2011 Comments section for incremental backups all the same. Why?

Thread needs solution

I have used versions 9 and 11, just started using 2011 latest build. I have always used an external drive for my secure zone, I have always used bootable rescue media such as a CD-ROM or USB stick to boot and then create full and incremental backups as well as to restore partitions. I have always been able to create a comment for each incremental. With ATI home 2011 I see I can do that, however, when I boot back into Rescue media, all incrementals share the same comment as the very first incremental, also when I use the option to change comments, I see when I reboot they do not stay, they revert to all comments being the same.

Spoke to tech support on the phone 3 times today, 1st person said this is normal, 2nd person said it is not, 3rd person said it is not. Then received an email saying I have to make comments AFTER I make a back up. This does not resolve the issue either. I only use the bootable rescue media to do my operations and want to continue to, as well as using an external drive. Please bare in mind I use bootable rescue media the same way one uses F11, on versions 9 and 11 this has always worked perfectly. Also I have learned how to create incremental backups by adding to the existing full back up archive, this I figured out, its just the comments for my incrementals all mirror the first, Please Hep Me !

Thanks !!! : )

Have a look at this KB article Tech support told me to look at, then please look at the very last picture. http://kb.acronis.com/content/18362

It says: To add a comment while creating a backup select the Comments tab in the backup wizard and type the comment in the window on the right:

But then it says after picture: Comments created from Acronis Bootable Media will be visible in Acronis True Image Home 2011 interface in Windows.

Both are correct, but whether in Windows ATI or Bootable Rescue (same as F11) I can not make comment changes stay. I have tried a great many times, have reinstalled ATI, as well as have rebuilt secure zone several times, nothing is working ...

Thanks !!! : )

I got a private response from some one at Acronis, saying they never saw this problem, but they did, please refer to: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/23529

My response to Acronis was: "Well what I am supposed to do until then ????
This is Horribly inconvenient, I just paid for this full version, I updated from Acronis ver. 11.
I already attempted to do a removal using the removal tool, but not all info in registry could be erased, so I got an error message trying to install 2011, and it would not install. So, I chose the upgrade option instead.

Make sure your Development team knows I upgraded. You 'Have' seen this issue before from user: misvin misvin, Article 23529: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/23529

Please have the Development team fix this, it appears to be an issue with the archive script in the application data folder called Acronis. If I edit it with notepad the descriptions for comments then stay and show up properly. That is very important information to pass on to your Development team .

Thanks !

Erik"

I too have had this problem since version 9. Now using version 2011. I have discussed it with Acronis a couple of times. No help. A very frustrating and serious problem IMO. I tend to use only the Boot CD for all my Image creation and restores. It is a consistent problem. I can't believe they act like they don't know about it.

Well my friend, that is the policy of a company run like sh*t, a company in it for all the money they can get until the decide to fold as customers disappear ... Believe me, I KNOW they 'KNOW' , and I know they deny not knowing, when in fact they do. (actually caught tech support on the phone in a huge lie about it recently !) Luckily I never had this problem on versions 9 and 11, I will never use Acronis TI future versions until I know for sure problems are fixed, . . . . . . . if ever. If not, when it comes time to do a bare metal restore I shall move onto Shadow Protect, as MANY Acronis EX users are doing, and have done, the reviews are extremely positive, you get NATIVE English speakers for tech support, and the forums, even the head designer makes himself very present on the forums. The reviews for TI 2011 I have read have been mostly terrible. Like I said this is not the same Acronis I started with !

I have always used the Bootable Media to do backups and restores, the comments section has been INVALUABLE !!!!!
A feature that is present in SP as well : )

Best !
