ATI 2012: Kernel Panic when restauring from secure zone
Hello, I am on Win 7 Pro 64 bits. PC working fine. I never had necessity to restore. I make a backup of my C systeme disk on a HD "secure" in the PC, where I locate the acronis secure zone (ASZ). I need to augment her size. I have make a non allocated zone on this HD, I click every successives things to upgrade the ASZ. I have the message "time calculating" (in french...), and a window open asking to restart (if not, the up-sizing operation will not be done...).
I accept, the PC closes and start from acronis (as if I press the F11 plot). And I have the horrible message:
Kernel Panic-not syncing VFS: unable to mount root fs unknown block (0,1)..etc etc.
Need to reset, and start OK from windows...but the ASZ up-sizing operation have not be done.
I tried to destry this ASZ, thinking to make another one after...but the problem is the same.
Any idea would be nice.
I wanted to write to the support...but be told that "my support time is finished". A pity..
Hope somebody can help me.

Thank for your answer. My system is stable (Seven Pro 64 bits), I've the last ATI 2012 version, and had hep from the Acronis team (pay per incident). It seems to be a Linux Kernel Problem, and I have to create ASZ starting from a special CD, made with PE builder, including ATI plugin create using Bart PE.... I have not yet tried to make that, it seems very "geeky" and a little complex. I shall try, hoping it works with Seven 64 bits.
I'm a little surprised about this problem, because using a well installed system, stable, and, in fact not sure at all to be able to use the so-called "rescue bootable disk" if made with ATI program. It seems to be a lack of security, as may be impossible to restore, and thinking (and paying for) this possibility. It's surprising to have such a basic problem...
Hope it'll work, and tell others users.

Did you try to update the ASZ through the recovery CD?
FWIW, I don't like the ASZ. It is not very flexible. You could use a regular partition and encrypt your backups, if security is an issue. If backup disaster protection is an issue, you'd better make offline copies for safekeeping rather than relying on the ASZ. Also remember that if your disk dies, the ASZ is not available.

Thank's for your advice. I take care about it, as I'm not a big rescue specialist... I'm OK to "only" have external back-up, and you summarize very well the problem: for me, it's not security issue, it's scrachand data lost issue.
But I'm a little anxious about "if I can not create ASZ with the rescue CD (made from ATI 2012 program), shall I be able to restore (if necessary) from this CD (using the C: back-up and the dfata back-up I made on external HD). Tha,k for your opinion. Pierre-Yves.

You need to be able to :-) When using ATI, a key test is to boot on the recovery CD, access the backup, and restore a couple of files. IF this test doesn't work, it might be because the recovery CD software doesn't support your hardware. This can generally be fixed by upgrading to the Plus Pack and creating a WinPE-based recovery CD (this one uses windows drivers). If using the WinPE disk doesn't work either, ATI wouldn't protect you.
Once you have passed the test, you can worry about protecting your backup files. Copying some full backups from time to time to another offline/offsite disk is probably the best way.

Thank's for looking on my case. I made such a test...and it works fine. So, this means that I'm able to rescue either System or data, using my "rescue CD".
I tried to make a Bart PE CD, but, as my win is an OEM Win Seven 64, the PEbuilder cannot find the windows files on the CD.
I shall have a look on WinPE, as it seems to not necessary need the Win CD.
But, the good new, for me, is that Rescue CD can boot an give me a chance to rescue. Never mind the ASZ ;-)
