ATI 2014 fails backup with "Failed to open backup file" error

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I can't do the system backup with error (see the error.jpg attached).

This is newly created backup configuration (see config.jpg), after all previous configurations have been removed in the ATI on Win 8.1 64 bit (see about.jpg) via Delete->Whole backup.

Please, advise how I can fix this issue - I just want to do system backup without any complex requirements.

Thanx,
Max

Your capture shows task having 69 backups or having created 69 backups. As you have the error,, my suggestion would be to start over with a another new scheme. The new scheme shouold have a different name, or not quite the same as the old one.

What is your scheme settings? Is it set for cleanup such as my example GH-12 at this link.

I actually have the same question. And it is the second time this happenend to me.

My backup are created on an external USB drive. During the backup proces the connection had apparently been interrupted. I was presented with a message that the backup file was corrupted. As the file was still on disk I deleted the file. From there on it was a mess.

Apparently ATI cannot recover from a trouble point based on information of the backup disk.
The backup dat failed was the full backup in a next set of incremental backups. ATI did not recognize that the full backup wasn't there anymore and started doing incremental backups.
Just to make sure I had (a strange but) working situation I tried to recover a single file. This failed with a message popping up for the first file in the backup. As that file had been deleted prior to the next increnmetal backup. Ignoring was no option, the message kept popping up. So I had to abort the program.

I am looking for a proper action to recover from this situation, as I am getting unsure about the reliability of ATI.

Thanks,
Peter

Peter, if the initial full backup for an incremental backup version has been deleted for whatever reason, then the whole backup version chain is now invalid and cannot be recovered.

The only options you have in this scenario is either to delete all remaining incremental versions for this task, then run a validation for the task which will pop-up multiple messages for the missing backups (one per backup) until all of them have been identified and the Acronis database information for the task correctly reflects the backup status of image files.

Alternatively, create a new backup task and start over but please ensure that you use a different task name to that of the original backup task.

To reiterate, incremental backups with no initial full backup image for them to be based upon are of no value and cannot be recovered.

Steve,

Deleting the files and running a validation for the task did the trick.
Thank you very much.

Peter

Peter, thank you for the feedback, glad the problem is solved.
