ATI 2015 Dissimilar restore using Universal Boot?

Thread needs solution

I have looked and looked for a walkthrough or video which will assist me in doing restores from one hardware platform to another. I have read the Manual for both ATI 2015 and Universal Boot (Restore) and do not see how it all plugs together. I have also googled and googled reading everything I can get my hands on and still no joy in my search. I have attempted to go through the process as prescribed in many "pieces" of information and still no joy. I have looked at using Sysprep - still no joy.

I am attempting to restore windows 7 from one old workstation to a brand new setup and it KILLS me that there is nothing out there that says "I was successful in migrating my old OS to another dissimilar hardware and here are the EXACT steps I took to make it work".

Frankly, I have found some articles that provide this level of detail, but only for ATI Premium 2014 - but they don't work since 2015 IS NOT 2014.

Before replying, please do not just list KB articles (I read them all) - none explain what I am looking for.

Hello,

Here is some info to note:

In past versions of ATIH, you would purchase a separate, 2nd license for "Universal Restore". From my understanding, with 2015 it works like this:

3 versions of ATIH 2015, which are:

1) HD - OEM basic version, many features not available, no universal restore
2) Basic - More features, but no universal restore
3) Premium - has everything and universal restore

I know that was how it worked with 2014, as I have some Premium and some HD versions.

So, how do you use Universal Restore? This is the simple part. If you have a version that supports Universal Restore, and you make your Boot-disk, ONLY when you restore do you see an option, where there is a box that you check, to use Universal Restore. In case you are not clear, Universal Restore is a function of the Restore, and NOT the backup process. This is how that works:

1) All backups taken (the TIB files) can be Universally Restored.
2) Your version, of the add-on license, makes the boot-disk have the Check-box to enable this.
3) Universal Restore is only used when you restore, not during backup.
4) How it actually works is after the restore, there is a script that edits the registry and removes the HAL layer from the Windows install. Then, if you need a storage driver (ie for a RAID card), you have the option to add this driver to the registry BEFORE you boot for the 1st time, so you don;t get a blue screen.

Hope this sheds some light on what you are doing, so don;t look for a Universal Restore Option when you run your backup, you should see it, if you have it, during the restore process.

David
