ATI TAKES TOO LONG TO CREATE IMAGE
I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and I recently bought ATI Home 2012 and when I tried my first full system backup (to an external HD) it took 44 minutes to create image of 33.6 GB and that's not aceptable.
I also own a desktop computer with Windows XP Professional (32 bit) with ATI Home 2009 and it only takes 14-16 minutes to create a 32 GB full image backup (and it resto-res in 10-12 minutes) Previous versions of ATI Home that I have owned also were able to create full images in less than 20 minutes.
It looks to me that with each new version, instead of improving, the creating of full images takes longer than previous versions and if a restoration takes the same amount of time (40 minutes or more for 33 GB) a tiny just 2 seconds of power failure (electricity at many homes frequently has spikes during the day that only last few seconds) will inte-rrupt the restoration and you'll have to start all over again but a restoration of just 10-12 minutes has more chances to be completed 99% of the time.
I need some solution to adjust or configure ATI settings to reduce the time it takes to create a full system image.

What you don't state in your comparison is the obvious....does the desktop have a 7200 rpm drive ? Laptops normally have 5400 rpm drives, which makes them slower when processing disc activities. Does the laptop have USB 2.0 ? Does the desktop have 2.0 ? Firewire ? Too many variables to consider. Please advise.

I do a full backup of about 25GB to an usb 3.0 external disk. Get an usb 3.0 card and HDD for your pc if you can.
It takes about 5 minutes. If I use a usb 2.0 connection, it takes about 30 minutes.

I am new here but I noticed this about your post that may affect the answers you get. Is that image size you mention 33.6GB the size of the backup image or the size of the source being backed up? If it is the size of the backup that is a compressed file and you may be thinking along the wrong parameters. I just backed up a 160GB drive with 62.1GB of data on it besides the partitions and it was 35.4GB in the backup file. That took around 40 minutes to an hour. to accomplish. The restore to a new Hard Drive too less than 40 minutes.
I get your dilemma as to power losses, but maybe your expectations are distorted by comparing how ATIH 2009 worked with XP a simpler and smaller system and how it works with WIN7. I hope they can find a solution for you. Is it possible for you to get a power backup? I'm thinkig either solar or a marine battery with a converter to whatever supply your machine takes.
