ATIH 2010 Recovery-Remove: Verification inconsistency with Full/Incremental file detail

Thread solved

I have licensed ATI Home 2009-2013 products on various household PCs over the past decade. Frequent ATI backups have saved my butt many times from disk crashes, disk upgrades, malware infections, as well as self-inflicted programming goofs. Unfortunately, I did not realize the importance of thoughtful archive naming and file maintenance through the ATI's internal metadata rather than the Windows File Manager.  The epiphany came only after realization that almost 9TB of backup space was almost completely filled with 10+ year old archives with little correspondence to ATIH's internal backup metadata.

So after spending the past month trying to decipher the timing, naming, and purpose of hundreds of ATI archives, and recreating the original directory structure under which they were created, I finally managed to cull my ATI archives down to a small fraction of the historical collection. The remaining archives are all relatively recent (within 2 years), and verified successfully.

The ATI disk backup configuration I typically use is to make a full backup followed by no more than 5 incremental backups before repeating the cycle with another full backup.  This chronology is shown (screenshot#1) by selecting Recovery from the main menu and clicking on (+) to display the file detail. But when I finally decide to remove an unneeded volume of archives, on some (but not every) full volume I select, the verification dialog shows only a subset of the volume's files (screenshot#2).

So before starting a massive removal frenzy, I would like to understand why:

  1. Only a subset of the archive files are shown in the removal verification dialog;
  2. if the preferred removal procedure is to select the main numbered (full) archive for removal; and
  3. if there are any hidden dependencies between successive full archives in an auto-numbered archive chain?

Thanks for any guidance that can be provided!

Sorry but ATIH2010 is so old that too much has changed in the interim 12+ years including how files are named and managed along with the program interface.

I can only suggest trying to do a validation for any remaining backup files and see if this throws any errors to indicate that metadata is missing etc.

As I mentioned, each volume in this archive set verifies successfully, including volume #5 and all its incremental extents.

What was perplexing to me is the fact when I selected the base full archive of the volume (in this case volume #5) and requested remove from the context menu, only the last incremental extent is listed in the verification screen, and indeed only the last incremental extent is removed after I proceed with the removal.

If however, I select the base full archive for removal (in the (+) detail list), the base archive and all the successive incremental archive files are removed.

Inquiring minds want to know.  Now I understand.
