ATIH - Old & New - Is a different RECOVERY DVD required for every PC?

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I have owned several versions of ATIH, over the years, and wondered if I really need to make and keep an "individual" Acronis Recovery Boot DVD, for each of my in-house desktops, and laptops, or can I just make one master recovery boot DVD and use it to start up recovery of any of the PC's.

Does the DVD I create using ATIH, also put specific or unique device drivers for that computer, that could cause recovery problems if this general DVD is used on a different desktop or laptop. I hope not, since if I buy a new PC to replace a damaged one, it will have completely different devices and drivers, so ATIH should still be recoverable.

Just wanted some confirmation. I would really rather just keep one copy of a Recovery Boot DVD.

If yiou have registered each version you have purchased, then your Acornis web account provides access to the download files so you can create a new TrueImage REcovery CD for any vesion you have registered.

You should keep at least one copy of each different version. Your best chance of success in a restore is to restore a backup using the same version as created it, However, it is possible for a current version to be able to recover backups created by earlier versions. I do not feel it wise to expect a new version to be able to restore older versions as the software changes but you don't need a copy for each computer as the copies are all the same if the version is the same.

I have a CD spindle where I keep one copy of each version I have had installed.
Many of the newer versions offers both the standard LINUX version recovery plus optinal WinPE versions. If you have both versions, I would keep a copy of both versions.

Some users have reported better results using 2014 to restore a 2015 backups but that is abnormal.
An older version will not normally restore a backup made with newer software.
