ATIH2011 kills network port on UEFI BIOS machine???
ATIH2011 has always worked for me...until now.
Duplicated the scenario below x5. First time didn't know what was going on, 2-5 times, paid attention, documented it, etc.
1. Fresh PC, clean drive, clean BIOS, etc.
2. Fresh load of Win 7 Pro 64bit.
3. Install onboard NIC drivers via flash drive.
4. Let Windows do it's own updating, 7x restarts required.
5. When that's all done, surf a bit, CNN, FOXNEWS, etc. only to test out Internet connection.
6. Hard power down, power up, repeat surfing just to make sure it still works.
7. Cut a full system image to an external USB hard drive using ATIH2011 bootinng direct from ATIH 2011 disc. Default options.
8. Hard power down, power up, onboard NIC port no longer works! Checked BIOS settings, reloaded network port drivers, repowered/reset router, etc. No dice.
9. Hard power down, but this time let it sit for an hour or so, power up, network port STILL doesn't work.
10. Installed a USB wireless .11n box. Surfing, etc. works as it should.
11. Huh???
12. Wipe drive using DBAN, reload Win7Pro64 and redo all steps. Network port starts working again UNTIL I cut the full system image.
Did this 5x in a row. Each time with the same result. Network port quits working AFTER running ATIH2011 from the disc.
Tried it 2x more, but this time installed ATIH2011 to the drive, otherwise using the same process outlined above, and getting the same results with the onboard NIC.
Obviously, I can't directly blame ATIH2011 for somehow killing the onboard NIC, but the signs sure seem obvious to me that ATIH2011 (or at least the process of doing the system image) is somehow turning off the onboard NIC. Checked the motherboard website for BIOS updates (none). Checked for NIC driver updates (none). And so on...
Any clues from the masses?
P.S. Motherboard make/model/etc information coming. Not in front of that machine at the moment.
