ATIH2012 Plus - standallone tool doesn't recognize OCZ SSD ( PCIe )
Hello Forum
System: Win7 Home Premium 64Bit fully patched / ACRONIS True Image Home 2012 including Plus package - successfully activated
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO USB3 ( AMD 890GX/SB850 )
AMD Phenom X2 6 x 3.0 GHz
16 GB DDR3
Inernal HD: Samsung 1 TB SATA2 Drive C ( 170 GB used )
External HD: Samsung 1TB SATA2 Drive H in a USB3 Case ( 130 GB "active" data )
new SSD: OCZ Revo3x2 240GB PCIe in PCIe-x4 Slot ( present, mounted and accessible in Windows environment )
ASUS PCIe x16 Graphics Card ( Nvidia 570GTX, 1280 MB GDDR5 ) in PCIe x16 Slot 2 with PCIe x16 Slot 1 closed with a ASUS addoncard to get full 16 Lane access on PCIe16 Slot 2 as recommended by ASUS
What i wanted to do: Clone of existing C drive on the new SSW as new bootdrive.
What happened: After seting up the clone process windows shuts down and Acronis stand allone tool starts ( so far OK ) ... then a window appears für less than one second, and system reboots immediately ( Windows Boot ).
I then created a bootable USB emergnecy media which worked fine, but when booting of this media Acronis schows the normal drives only - no OCZ SSD Drive... - so thats why the clone process fails.
Can i implement the OCZ driver in the bootable rescue media in oder to invoke the cloning process directly from this environment?
I also tried to run a fullbackup C to H in order to restore this backup on the SSD Drive as this restore should work within Windows environment ... but i faild two times..
1st attempt: Acronis sayd Backup OK, but Windows issued a "problem on delayed write operation" later - Backupfile is incomplete cannot be read.
2nd attempt: Error reading file ( no idea why )
My last try would be: Fullbackup C to H in the standallone environment and then retore H to new SSD in Windows environment.
any sugestions

ulrich,
Cloning will not work in this case. Windows is not using the Revo drivers to control the boot device, it is using other drivers (SATA).
You would need to back up your "C" drive to your external drive, boot to the Windows based WinPE Rescue Media and then restore with it using the Universal Restore feature, having 64 bit drivers for the REVO available for Universal Restore to modify the restored copy of Windows so that the drivers can be loaded at boot time.
Using the Plus Pack, you would need to create the Windows based WinPE bootable ISO. You would need to inject the OCZ Revo 3 x2 drivers (32 bit) into the .wim file before creation of the WinPE based Rescue Media ISO, and then create the ISO.
For instructions on how to inject drivers and create the ISO, see these links:
(They are discussing 2013, but pertain to 2012 as well)

If you are having trouble creating a backup file to your external USB3 connected hard drive, try moving it to another USB port before backup. (USB 2.0 if you have it.) Also check you settings in device manager, and set the USB drive for "quick removal" instead of "better performance" before making another attempt to back up to the USB drive.

Good morning from Austria
Thank you for the quick reply.
Well seems you're right - i've downloaded the latest build of the standalone iso image and burnt it to a DVD.
Now the standalone tool recognizes the SSD - but not as a single drive - it lists 4 drives with 55,9 GB ( only one as initialized - which is wrong! )
I tested the drive in Win7 environment by copying a 11,5 GB Gamefolder onto it and running the game of this drive - it worked smoothely.
Even though i ran an check media on my 90% full 1TB USB Disk which consumed 14GB of my 16GB RAM parallel to the above test.
I will try out the tips given by James concerning the backup to the USB Drive as it still dont work - reading the logfiles it seems that the Backup is written completely but acronis can't read it afterwards for verify. ( seems a bit funny though )
... and build me a WinPE media for the restoreprocess..
will keep you informed

It worked
thanks James
i put a spare 1 TB SATA Disk in the PC, then built the WinPE ISO with injected OCZ 32Bit driver and acronis plugin, and ran it on my PC.
Attention: I struggled a bit with an "error 5" of the OSCDIMG utility ( the last commandline operation in the ISO building process ) until i found a discussion at MS developers site .... THIS COMMAND HAS TO BE ENTERED MANUALLY! - it wont work when copied into the command shell! ( ain't logic - but true - shit happens ) - perhaps this schould be mentioned in the support document..
.. performed a fullbackup of my former C ( driveletters in WinPE are corresponding to plugsequence of the HDs which is different to my former Windows settings as my former C drive ist SATA Drive 2 ) to the spare HD ( E ).
Then tried to restore with universal restore to the new SSD - WinPE crashed with an illegal memory pointer exception...
..well - i started my old Win7 ( still SATS Disk ) and performed the universal Restore from E to the new SSD within Win7 environment - this restore reported an error concerning a driver ( could not determine which driver in partikular ).... then shut down my PC, changed the boot settings to SSD as first HD ....
An Win7 was able to boot of the SSD!
so it was a success
again thanks to James

ulrich,
Glad to hear you found a solution that worked for you.
The issues you had with OSCDIMG are not uncommon with the WinPE build process. In the future, when you first open the command prompt use "run as adminitrator" and the copy and paste commands will normally work.

Thanks again
The OSCDIMG "feature" ocurs in admimistrator - privileged - command prompts..
This MS developer forum was full of postings - mainly Error5 but allso some error 3, 1, or 7 even when executing the command shell as administrator.
It seems to be an issue of the OSCDIMG routine.

Thanks for the update, I will keep this in mind if I get this error.
