back-up disc full

Thread needs solution

Acronis - compute with confidence??!
I'm scheduling an incremental disc backup of one PC's internal harddrive to another internal harddrive every morning at 3am. This works fine until the back-up disc is full after some weeks. When that happens, the back-up process will obviously abort. Now the issue: You will not know about that problem at all until by choice you start the program and see that the last backup is older than last night and in the log file you find the error message "disc full". There is no other warning or flag at all when you come to the PC next morning. I had occasions when the back-up wasn't actual anymore for over a week when by incident I found out by manually starting the program and having a look into the log-file or manually looking onto the back-up drive seeing it's full. This is risky, unprofessional and disappointing. I would clearly expect a reliable program showing a sort of warning-window next morning when you arrive at the PC. Is there any option I might have overseen triggering such kind of warning? Thanks a lot for any advise. pawo

Got the solution for my problem: you can have ATIH sending you an email about the status/outcome of each scheduled activity. this will serve my needs. Also I had to set the limit for rest-space on the back-up disc much higher (from 100MB (default) to 2GB) to get a proactive warning about the problem. pawo

pawo,
Many of us have found good success in using the method of "keeping x number of chains" custom backup scheme as a method of preventing the disk full error--as per this 2012 example.

Thank you so much for this great tip, GroverH! I will change my settings straight away as this is more and much better proactive means, additional to the email warning I had set-up. Thanks again and have a great day! pawo

It is better to create a new task than editing key settings of an existing one: backup scheme, name, destination or retention rules.

I have a backup scheduled every night. I also have Paragon making a backup on the same back up HDD. There is not enough space for another full back up. There is like 35GB of space left, and each backup is over 40GB. I have each program set to overwrite the previous one. Paragon does this with no problem. But Acronis 2012 says there is insufficient space for the backup. All I can figure is that Acronis will not overwrite the previous backup until it has the whole new back up completed, then it deletes the previous backup.

All I have to do is remember to delete the current Acronis backup before I retire for the night. Then there is no problem. I really don't like having to do this because I sometimes forget to delete and then Acronis fails to make the backup. And it does not flag a window which stays on the screen until I "OK" it. If Paragon fails, there is the notice screen waiting for me in the morning.

Both these programs have restored my HDD several times each, and both have done so flawlessly. I have no idea how to do anything other than what I am doing. I guess the email notice in Acronis will have to be activated.

You are correct in that Trueimage will not delete the old until a replacement is verified.

You could write a batch file to delete the unwanted backup before the new backup begins.

Another option would be to use a helper program for TI such as Chain2Gen(C2G) which has a link inside my signature below.
The function of C2G would be to delete the backup before a replacement begins.

I assume these backups are all full backups. I am understanding you have dual coverage of the same data by Paragon and Acronis but deleting backups is generally not a safe idea. Maybe consider getting another storage disk.
