Backing up a NAS, folder name length limits?
Hi,
I've been using TIH 2011 for backing up my Win 7 laptops for awhile. I just installed a QNAP NAS (TS-219P II) for all our data and would like to use TIH to make an encrypted backup of the whole NAS, onto an external portable HD, formatted NTFS, for storage offsite. Is this possible?
Reading the KB article on backing up a NAS (http://kb.acronis.com/content/2954), I understand that TIH can't back up a full disk or partition; it only operates at the file and folder level which makes sense because of the different NAS filesystem.
But is it really true that for NAS's, TIH can't work with folder names longer than 8 characters??
(Am just about to start testing, but the NAS world is new to me so any advice from someone with experience would be appreciated.)

Shadow,
Many thanks for the reply. I should have said in the original post that I updated the firmware to 4.0.2 at the start.
While I like Acronis products a lot, I'll give the QNAP backup feature ("Backup Station") a try.
If I ever needed to restore from the backup, would it have to be done through the NAS only, or could it be restored to a PC?
Also, would you know if Backup Station can encrypt the backup it creates? (I like with Acronis that the external HD I store off site is encrypted.)
Thanks again

Well, the vendor's backup system for NAS is a no-go, can't encrypt, so I'm looking to make TIH work, or possibly using another Acronis product if necessary. Is anyone making TIH work to backup their NAS (mounted as a network drive)?
Thanks
