Backing up while in W 7?

Thread needs solution

I run Windows 7 home premium 64 bit on a laptop and backup to an external USB drive.

I've heard that backing up while running in Windows 7 may be problematic and that it is safer to reboot using the Acronis rescue disk and backup up from there.

Is that true? Why?

Thanks.

While in W7, you're running a version of ATI that runs under Windows. From the Bootcd you're using a version that runs under linux. Two diff compilings of the program, diff set of hardware drivers, and some programming diffs too. And two diff OSes.

Sometimes one works better than the other depending on the particular hardware -- this is generally true of ATI in its various numbered/named versions.

Some folks argue that using linux is safer and others that Win is safer. A bit like arguing whether a baseball or basketball is rounder.

ATI 2010 has some particular probs in some cases with w7 64 bit (you can search the forums for those or jsut try the prog yourself but the most common one I've heard of is probs making a valid backup file on external usb drives. So you can try and then if you find those probs, you might try the bootCD.

Otoh, you will def need the bootcd to restore so test it to make sure it sees your drives and can do a restore.
