"The Backup is corrupted" error message

Thread needs solution

Purchased Acronis Terue Image full version to create disk image of new computer's hard drive in case of need to revert to original factory settings. Performed backup on April 18 to an external hard drive with no apparent problem. I was about to create another disk image with programs and data installed and find that the original backup is now flagged as corrupted. I tried using the error code to get details on the problem and was informed there is "no information available on this error now." Of course, there is no tech support available except on a costly pay basis (I now understand that I made mistake in purchasing this product -- too late). The "support" was the advice to post my problem here and hope for a member to offer advice. At this point do I have any choice other than to write off Acronis as money out the window and get a reputable product such as Norton Ghost? If anyone in the forum has had the same error, I would much appreciate how and if they were able to deal with it. Making another backup seems to be a waste of time and disk space if they become corrupted without even being used once.

Thanks in advance, APS

navigate to the backup file with windows explorer, right click on it and choose Validate. If the backup validates, it's okay. IF it doesn't, you can try copying it to an internal drive and try again to validate (in case the problem).

Short of that, the backup is probably corrupted and not usable -- although you might be able to double click on it, which will open it as a virtual drive, and copy some data files from it.

The reason for the file corruption might not be trueimage but some other issue -- weak spot on the disk or such. I'd try backing up again and see if the prob persists with the new backup. fi not, then I'd make more backups -- always good to have a few on hand in case any one goes bad for any reasons.

If any new backups also will not validate, then that's a more serious issue to track down once that is determined.

I have had this same error when I made a new backup image. After the last time I clicked on the upper right area of the corrupted backup and selected validate and the validation started. at the end of the process it reported that the backup was valid. Why? See third paragraph from Scott Hieber above????

I think it is some glitch in the software, but when I've verified the corrupted backup again, I've never had it not verify. I always backup using the full backup option not the incremental. I also disable my internet connection when I'm doing a backup, just to be safe. I have restored my entire hard drive recently with Acronis true image 2012, and it worked quickly and flawlessly.
