Backup PC & Restore to Another?

Thread needs solution

To start with, I have ATIH 2011 with the Plus Pack on a recovery CD.

The display on my Toshiba Satellite laptop has been flickering and it's getting worse, so I'm afraid it will soon go out. As my wife no longer uses her Dell Inspiron laptop I'd like to backup my Satellite's HDD and restore it to the Inspiron's HDD (which should be large enough for the backup image file).

I would appreciate any guidance as to exactly how to get this done (in case it matters, both laptops are running Vista HP 32-bit).

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the reference. So it would seem that all that I will have to do after restoring the image is to install any necessary drivers - is that correct?

Would you know what the status of Windows' validation will be after restoring the image on the other laptop? Also, as each pre-installed Vista has it's OEM branding, do you foresee any issues in that regard?

Not exactly. You have to have the drivers of your disk controller and/or chipset available in their OEM or INF format on a disk that ATI can access during the backup from the recovery CD.
You will have to do your own research for the definite answer; don't take my answer as legal advice, My understanding is that an OEM version is attached to the computer it came with and cannot be transferred per the EULA. Technically, it might activate or you might get it activate after calling Microsoft, but you might still violate the license.
