Backup Rules - Non functional

Thread needs solution

Hello forum,
I have TrueImage Home 11.

Could someone please explain 2 things:

1) No matter what "Backup Rule" I try to use, nothing seems to happen other than the creation of another backup. No Consolidation! Why?

2) Exactly what does "Consolidation" mean? When a "backup rule" is violated, consolidation is supposed to happen. Is the oldest file deleted?

I just edited my Backup Location to set the "Backup Rule" to LIMIT 3. As 4 backups already exist, a warning message appeared stating that a violation was detected and would be delt with the next time the scheduled task ran.

Great! This let me know that my Backup Limit Rule was recognized!

However, when the time arrived and the scheduled task executed-- the only thing that happened was the creation of a 5th backup! No consolidation! What's the deal!

P.S: The largest backup is 10GBs. Free space in the backup location is 70GB's.

Could someone please explain this.
Thanks,
Robert

I cannot speak to your question, but I do have a question of my own.

How many and what type backups do you want to retain and for how long? In order words:

Do you want to retain only full backups? If yes, how many.

or, Do you want to retain several backup sets (how many) and each backup set could compose of one full plus x number (how many) of incremental or differential backups.

Most likely, what you are wanting could be accomplished with a simple batch file. For background, review

Thank you GroverH for your reply.

However, I would still like to know of what purpose are the "Backup Rules"??
I know it's supposed to trigger a "Consolidation", but I don't see it happening.

Would it not seem logical that if I specify a "Backup Rule" LIMIT of 3, once that is violated, the oldest backup/s would be removed to keep it under that LIMIT?

Thanks,
Robert
