Backup started failing

Thread needs solution

I have my system set up to backup at 1AM and it has been doing that for some time with no problem. But this morning it said that the backup failed. So I ran it manually and it failed again. I looked at the event log and clicked on the error but got "There is no information about this error available now. You can use the links below to search for any additional information that might be available."

I've attached the log from this morning's backup -- any idea what went wrong and what I can do to fix it? THANKS!

No -- it is pretty inconvenient to take my system down. But I'll try that. Tonight the backup failed again. Error code: 0x000B03E9_0x01E50006_0x00040007_0x0000FFF0_0x80070003. As a footnote, I'm on the 'incremental' scheme and tonight was a full-backup, so last night the incremental failed and tonight the full failed. [it is really too bad you can't copy the error info!!, but it is the same error as last night "Failed to open data stream" at the very end of the backup. It has already said "The following backup has been successfully created". It updates a bunch of databases, does "Consolidating Backup Archive". And then the next log entry just says "Failed to open data stream"

Which raises a related question: is there some convenient way to know that the backup has run into an error? If I have to fire up the program to see that there was an error, I could as easily just click on 'backup now' and that seems to defeat part of the purpose of doing an automatic backup in the middle of the night. Is there some setting or something that would _notify_ me of errors instead of my having to actually start up the program to look for them?

You can use email notification (part of backup options) to notify you about the success or failure of your backups.

Be sure and use the test button to verify that your settings will produce an email.

And the email notices work perfectly! Thanks again. But unfortunately, they give me the same answer: my backups are no longer working. today's email:

And there are no other files in the backup directory other than the .tib files. Anybody have any idea what's going wrong -- it had been working fine and started failing just a few days ago. thanks!

It would appear that the Acronis Data base has become confused. I would stop the task and create a new task pointing to a new folder or sub-folder

If you are going to use the date as part of the name, I would suggest that you add an underscore or dash before and after the date such as
_@date@_

What and where is the storage disk? A simple external or a NAS or network?

The consolidation option has had some issues in the past. Rather than use consolidation, consider using the option to keep x number of recent backup chains for you new tasks. This type option seems to work the best.
If you look at the link below,
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/28705
figure 11-Inc lists suggestions for incrementals; or figure 11-Full for fulls; or figure 11-Dif for differentials. Adjust the 6 and 4 to fit your needs.

OK, I'll do that: I'll stop the current backup task and set up a brand new one and I'll do the keep-chains.

As for the backup, it is on an iSCSI drive mounted from my NAS. AFAICT the mount works perfectly and there aren't any issues I know of in accessing the drive [and indeed, the backup, itself, seems to go fine]. So I'll go do that.

One question: why a new folder. There doesn't seem to be anything other than the .tib's stored in my backup folder, would there be a problem starting a new backup task but pointing it at the same folder? Thanks!!

Experience proves that ATI can become confused if you backup 2 different tasks with the same content into the same folder...

Better to backup into a new folder, or move the TIB files you wan to keep to another folder on the same disk and delete the corresponding task in ATI before creating the new one.

OK, I created a new folder, nuked the old backup task and created a new one. The backup is running fine, but I happened to notice in the log that I'm getting "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created". I got that error yesterday, after the first [new config] backup was successful and I got it again this AM when today's backup was successful AND I got it again this AM when I fired up the UI [to check the logs]. AFAICT the config info seems to be there: my backup settings seem to all be there. Any idea what *this* error is about? thanks again... /b\

Pat - thanks for this info. I just made a change for all of my task to ensure they were going to unique folders. I did this by the "move" in TI 2012, very simple and easy to do. What was really sweet is that the task was also updated to reflect the new folder location.
