Backup Task always fails with "Cannot open archive for writing"

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 11 (Build 8,214) on Windows 7 within Parallels for Mac. I have set up a backup location on an external hard drive.

When I initiate a manual backup to the backup location it works fine.

When I try to do a backup to the same backup location using the same settings, but as a Task, it fails with the following error messages:
1) Cannot open archive for writing,
2) Failed to open the file X:windows_backup\for write: Cannot open archive for writing. (0x400003)| path = “Y:\windows_backup\” | Tag = 0xD7386B598A774E04|Error opening the file. (0x40007)| function = ...
3) Operation has completed with errors.

The Task is set to run as "Administrator" with no password. I have double checked and the only user account setup in Windows is "Administrator" and it does not have a password.

I have run out of ideas about why the Task is failing. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Aaron,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with this.

Thank you for your detailed description of the issue, it is possible the scheduled task fails because our software has problems accessing the folder where you save your backups. I would recommend the following workaround:

1. Please check your folder permissions where the backup is stored and make sure they are set to full and everyone.

2. Disable Windows UAC and see how the scheduled backup performs.

If the backup still fails, please send me a private message with this report so that I can analyze its output.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
