Beware of $25 rebate!!!

Thread needs solution

I purchased Acronis True Image 10 from Newegg.com due to $25 rebate back in May! After submitting required documents and form (ie. rebate form, Original UPC, receipt) four weeks later receive a postcard stating rebate is invalid due to no UPC or receipt! Wow...they got the envelope with rebate form but conveniently lost the original UPC and the receipt!!!! They asked me to submit the original UPC again (which they lost...or...claim they never received) to receive the $25 rebate. Tried to call the number on rebate form but no live operater!! Email them with confirmation that "somebody" would get back to me with in 2 days....no response yet!! Con at it's best!! How do these people get away with crap like this? There was another buyer of this product with exact same problem. Coincident.........may be or may be not........Still shaking my head from disbelief!!

Common with rebates. Make copies of all submitted items before mailing it off. Submit the copies when they claim they didn't receive something. That's usually sufficient to get them to pay the rebate, and basically all you can do to protect yourself. I also usually stamp my return address on all the items sent in, but not sure if that really helps or not.

Rebates are handled by a company that contracts with the vendor-- often guaranteeing that no more than x number of rebates or x percent of rebate offers will be paid and the rebate handler is then on the hook for any above that. (This number is relatively low, so,ething like ten or 15% -- many folks don't bother to send in rebates, some do it incorrectly. . .) So the rebate handler firms often have an interest in discouraging payment. Some of them appear to do this is by rejecting rebate applications out of hand, even valid ones -- many folks won't bother or remember to check and of those that doo, many won't bother to resend materials -- thus, a lot those rejected just go away and this practice lowers the rebate handler's costs. It's a dispicable practice and a vendor needs to take a very careful look at a rebate handler before entering into a contract. It's important to report any perceived misconduct to the vendor so that it can be aware how it's contractor is performing. The reports from the contractor are problably glowing.

Why not pursue again with NewEgg. Give them a call and talk in person. This situation leaves a poor reflection on NewEgg and Acronis is not involved.

I use Newegg a lot and they are pretty reasonable.

What I do is when a rebate is offered I just ask them to discount the item reflecting the rebate and most of the times they do.
If they don't then I don't buy the item.
Been burnt too many times and they make you wait months....

I had the same concern and found this link:
Rebate checks will be mailed in 6-8 weeks. If you have not received your rebate within 10 weeks, please visit
http://www.rebateshq.com or call 1-866-561-7660.

I followed the link and checked status. My rebate was approved but I'll still be following up. Mine has been submitted for at least 8 weeks.
Thanks for the warning. I hope this helps someone else.
