Blue Screen -- Page Fault
Okay, my backup strategy is not that great.
I was installing True Image 2011 on WinXP, and after I rebooted, I get a blue screen page fault. I tried going into safe mode, last known good, and they all blue screen on me. How do I correct this?
Do I have to use the installation CD, and do the recovery option?

It's a page fault in a non-paged area. It doesn't mention snapman.sys.
It has a bsod code of 0x00000050, and then a few hex numbers in parenthesis. I didn't update any of the video drivers. It happens in any of the boot methods (safe, command, normal.) I was hoping there was a way I could get in there and disable a particular driver for TIH11. Maybe with a Linux boot disk, is there a config file that I can modify on the NTFS file system? If it's in the registry, I'm not sure I'd be able to fix that.
Thank you, Pat. I hope I can get this fixed.
I could try system recovery from my XP disk, or alternative a complete reload, although the latter is my last option.

Are the hex numbers always the same? If yes, I suspect this is a memory issue. Can you run memtest86?

I will have to figure out how to run memtest86. If I can boot from a disk and run it, no problem. If I need to be in a Windows environment, I won't be able to do that. I can try booting into a linux environment, and if that comes up okay, then I would guess that it's not a memory problem. I'll try that this evening, and then let you know. I'm cleaning up from the Labor Day weekend camping trip, and boy is there a lot to clean up!!!

Well, I booted Linux Mint 10 without any problems. It doesn't appear to be a physical memory problem. When I tried to boot back into Windows, I get the Blue Screen again. It says
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
STOP: 0X00000050 (0XFFFFFFE8, 0X00000001, 0X804D9044, 0X00000000)
The numbers are constant. Can I modify any of the Windows startup files to remove TIH drivers or something?

Can you restore the last known good configuration by hitting the F8 key as you boot?
If not, you will have to edit the registry offline to remove references to ATI.
Did you try to reinstall Windows XP?

I ran memtest86+, and it passed with flying colors. I also tried using the last known good settings. It brings up the Windows XP animation screen, but never gets beyond that to the logon screen.
Where do I look in the registry to remove the ATI drivers? I can probably find some utility to let me access the registry from Linux.

I tried a couple of things. When I boot into Safe Mode with command prompt, it bails on fltsrv.sys. Looking that up, it deals with Acronis. So, I go in with the recovery console, and rename it fltsrv.sys.old. Now it bails on agp440.sys, which occurs immediately before fltsrv.sys. So, back into the recovery console, and I disable the four Acronis services. No luck, it still bails on fltsrv.sys (which I had named back.) Just for fun, I looked for an innocuous file I could put in its place. I tried copying null.sys as fltsrv.sys, but it sill blue screens at that point. Any ideas?
