bootable media never loads - stuck on loading please wait - Acronis 2014
Hello Folks,
I reset my laptop to factory settings because windows 10 went into an endless 0x000021a error message. I have been backing up with Acronis 2014 diligently so I have a system backup. But when I try and use the bootable media it never gets past this screen:
Acronis
Loading, please wait…
RIAD set “isw_gcheghfba_Cache” was activated
RIAD set “isw_gcheghfba_FFS” was activated
A couple of times it booted from the usb after about half an hour, but soon after the screen displayed random black dots and there was a beep every time I hit a key. Black dots in attached photo. Weird.
I have tried the solutions here and have:
- Checked I’m using the latest build
- Tried the “acpi=off no acpi” workaround
- Tried with media burned to CD from True Image
- Tried with media created on a USB from True Image
- Tried with a CD created from the ISO file in my Acronis account.
I have also had a go at the fix here, although it is specifically for systems with NVidia graphics cards so predictably didn’t work.
My machine is an HP Envy 6-1010TU, running windows 10. The specs are here, but basically:
- 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5-2467M
- Intel UMA Shared Graphics
Unfortunately Acronis support says 2014 is no longer supported so all the options are greyed out. It's only just over a year since 2014 and you're on your own. Can anyone else help?
Thanks!

Thank you! I'm away for the weekend and will give it a try on Monday when I get back. Stay tuned...

Hi Steve, I tried System Rescue and it worked fine. Surfed the web for a bit, everything seems good. Since I've tried 3 different Acronis boot media it seems unlikey they are the problem. So I suspect some issue between Acronis and HP...

Steve, glad to hear that your hardware looks to be good when booted with alternative media, but I guess that you may be still in the same situation of needing to restore your ATIH 2014 backup image.
See post http://forum.acronis.com/forum/42323#comment-132772 which was written for ATIH 2013 but you should be able to take the same approach using a trial copy of ATIH 2016 and see if you can download the recovery media for that version and try that to see if you can recover your image.

Steve Webber,
The link below shows the limitations of the Trial version.

With the trial version, you should be able to create rescue media...just the Linux version, not the WinPE version.
Steve Smith's advice is the way to proceed.

Thanks for your help guys. Here's what I did, success almost...
- Tried the 2014 bootable media on a desktop and on another laptop. It worked fine. So my laptop also seems to be fine, but just won't go with Acronis 2014 bootable media which also seems to be fine. Seems odd to me.
- Created bootable media from 2016 trial version and that worked fine on my HP Envy. Very encouraging!
But... the backup is on a network drive and the 2016 trial version can't see it! I guess I just copy the backup off the network drive onto a usb drive. But that's a boring job for tomorrow or the next day... erk.

Hi Steve, good to hear that you have been having more success with the trial version recovery media - obviously the full 2016 media would allow you to create WinPE media and add drivers for your network card etc, but putting the image on a USB drive is a quick option to get the backup restored in the interim while you consider your options re 2016.

Steve W,
My laptop behaves in a similar manner...I believe it is caused by the BIOS.
If I point my BIOS to boot from the DVD with rescue media and the HDD has a valid Windows OS, the DVD will spin for about 45 to 60 seconds, and then Windows boots from the HDD. If I remove the HDD, or install an HDD without an OS, the DVD will boot.
Go figure.

Thanks Steve, I gave 2016 (and 2015 before it) some thought, but I use 2014 to sync to a local disc for the things I care about like photos. That way I have an extra backup in a different form, which I keep offsite. They disabled that function and my uploads are too slow to use the cloud. So when it's time to drop 2014 I will either find separate sync software or drop Acronis for something that does both. I would prefer to stay with Acronis because I look after the IT for some family so I have 4 licences, and I'm going to need 2 more soon. I don't want to change what I do on 6 machines, too boring! But the sync function is good (and truth be told it's annoying that the updates are actually downgrades!) so I'll look around.
Lesson from all this is that a 30 day trial period is that long for a reason - to know it's the right product for you, you have to actually do some system restores, use the bootable media on all the machines you need it for etc. that takes some time...
FtrPilot... Yep, go figure!

Steve, I fully understand about wanting to use the sync features which have been dropped in the latest versions with only cloud sync allowed for a subscription. I personally use a mix of methods to do the same, I use Dropbox to sync between my different systems and mobiles for some things, and use the free SyncFolders utility for others, though the latter is used in a manual capacity. Most recently I have invested in a Synology DS NAS with 3TB of RAID drives which also offers a personal sync utility - Synology Cloud Station which I can use local or remote across all my devices.

Thanks for those tips, I'll have a look at Syncfolders and Synology. I have had a go at using Seagate's personal cloud, with not perfect results. The web browser doesn't work. Which is no big deal for my purposes but makes you worry! And support to sort that out for a brand new product? None.

Hi Folks, just wanted to say thanks for you help. Have been slow, sorry! The machine is up and running, but I can't make it work from a system backup. I think only because I don't know what goes where! but I'll keep playing while I have a machine in this state so it doesn't matter. Might as well learn while you can! So as not to bore you with it here, have started a new thread about what goes where: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/114735
Thanks!
