Bootable Media Option doesn't work

Thread needs solution

I downloaded Acronis Home 2011 Trial. I puchased boxed version and entered Serial #, and also registered online. So far so good. I am backing up to a Verbatim Acclaim 1T USB drive. Setup went o.k., however when I try to check the box "make this media bootable", it is still "greyed out" and non-functional. I thought I read that this function was disabled in the trial version but would be functional when registration number was entered. Still doesn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

J.

Hello James,

Thank you for finding time to report about the issue on Forum. I appreciate it, and will do my best to help you.

I've carefully checked all our internal resources, and found no mention of a known issue that would match your description, so the situation requires investigation. Could you please gather the following data?

  1. Acronis Info from the problem machine
  2. Exact sequence of steps performed
  3. Screenshot of the problem

After that submit a case with the information attached, and let us know it's number.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

James,

I bet you are referring to the "make this media bootable" option when you select the destination of a backup drive. This option is available only for removable media (DVD, CD, USB flash drives). It is not available for regular UBS disks.

What you need is a little bit different. You need to choose "create bootable media", under "more features" in the main program window. THis will allow you to create a USB or DVD disk, aka recovery medium, you can use to boot your machine on. When you do this, a version of ATI on the disk can start and help you restore your backups.

Restoring from the recovery medium is strongly recommended when restoring images that contain the system, although these restores can be done from the windows interface as well.

I hope this makes sense
