BOOTMGR is missing
Hello - I am new to the world of cloning and I am stuck. I purchased a WD scorpio blue HD in order to upgrade my current laptop HD (Dell inspiron 1501). The old HD is partitioned into a D drive and a C drive - and the hidden partition exists as well. I created a bootable CD of True Image WD (2010) and was able to successfully (seemingly) clone the old HD to the new HD. When the cloning is done, the laptop shuts down. When I restart, I receive the BOOTMGR is missing error. In order to troubleshoot, I changed around the drives (putting the old HD back in) and I used data manager to take a look at the drives. The new WD drive contains a partition marked EISA configuration and another partition (drive letter F) marked active and primary partition. I do not have access to the original Windows CD's that came with this laptop. What should I do next? thanks.

Thanks Pat - I will try the manual mode (again). I did as you said: I had the new drive in the machine and the old drive in the enclosure. I will try what you suggested about not allowing any drive but c or d to resize. Will post results tonight

Also, double check that your BIOS settings have not changed. They should not. Just checking.

Pat, I noticed something that I think may be part of the problem: I don't know that the cloning is completing successfully. I watched it from start to finish and what I see is that it gets to Step 4 of 5, runs for awhile and then the machine shuts down. At first, I figured this was part of the process but now I am not so sure. Any idea what would be causing the premature shut down?

Hmmm. It doesn't look like it is successful. Is your disk encrypted in any way? Is there a password that encrypts the MBR or something?
Your alternative to the clone is to do a disk and partition backup onto a USB, swap your drives, and then restore the image on the new disk.
