Browse for backup/Can't add backup to backup list

Thread needs solution

I'm a long time user of True Image and I must say that the 2011 version is a mess!  I've run in to many of the problems other users are reporting in the forum here (incorrect .tib names created during a backup, single-version-backups failing to start, etc.), but here's another problem that should not be in a released product:

Browse for backup, select a .tib file on a USB drive, click 'Add to backup list'.  Nothing happens!  The backup is not added to the backup list.

I haven't messed around to see if you can't add the backup to the backup list because it's on a USB drive, but so what.  If Acronis can't add a backup on a USB drive to the backup list (and why not?), then why have the button active to add it to the list??

More generally, what gives with True Image 2011?  Doesn't Acronis understand that they're damaging their reputation by releasing a product with so many easy-to-find problems?

I am also having a similar problem with ATIH 2012 in August 2012.

In my case I made the original backup to a USB-3 HDD. after removing the USB HDD for a few weeks and then plugging it in again, the original backup does not show up in my backups list and when I try to add it to the list with Browse for Backup, I see the backup and click add to backup list, but it still does not show up.

I also tried to recover from the backup. Same problem. Not in list, add to backup sees the backup but does not make it available.

Given these problems, I do not see any utility whatsoever to ATIH. If I don't get a solution, I will have to junk the program.

Richard,

WHen you say original backup, are you talking about a single full backup, or an incremental backup?

After the original backup was completed in ATI 2012, you must have seen the task in the UI, right?
And before you plugged the disk back, did the backup task disappear from the list of backups?

Is there any chance that the drive letter of the disk was not the same after you plugged it back in?

When you search your computer for archives.xml, do you find this file in the hidden folder C:\programdata\Acronis\True Image Home\Database or something like that
If yes, rename this file while Acronis is not running, then launch Acronis again. Can you now browse for the backup and add it?
